OFFSHORE- Pretty fishing looking forecast for the upcoming weekend. Friday will be a little bumpy, but as of now it looks like Saturday and Sunday will both be very nice. Sailfish bite has remained good this week, with some boats getting multiple shots. Best depth for the sailfish remains 100-200' of water, but may vary depending on current, bait, and water conditions. Look for the sails to be holding best in areas with lots of bait and good north current. Dolphin remain mixed in with the sails in fair numbers. Look for the best dolphin bite to be in 200-300' of water. Kingfish are still hanging along the 120' ledge in Jupiter in fair numbers. Drifting a sardine on a knocker rig or a live bait down deep will get the kings to bite. Fair number of cobia reports starting to come in as well along the ledge. Best bite on the cobia has been north of Jupiter Inlet. A live bait down deep is a great way to go for the cobia. Not a lot of snapper reports this week, but conditions this weekend look right for the bottom bite to be good. INSHORE- Snook fishing has remained fair this week, especially for those putting a lot of hours in to find them. Bridges with deeper water and good current are a good place to look for the snook right now. Live shrimp drifted through the shadow line is a good way to get bites, as is a bigger bait (jig, swim bait, etc.) fished slowly along the bottom. The big baits won't produce as many bites; but the bites you get will be the right ones. The Munyan Island flats have been holding a few pompano, spotted seatrout, and a few sheepshead. Jacks and ladyfish are holding in their usual spots around the Hobe Sound Flats. SURF/PIER- Pompano fishing remained good this week, with a solid number of pomps coming from Juno Beach to north of Jupiter Inlet. Sandfleas, clams, and fishbites remain the top producing baits for the pompano. Look for the best bite on the pompano to be first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. Reel the pompano in quick though...the sharks will be snooping around for an easy meal. Sharks are not as thick this week, but enough are hanging around to make them worth fishing for. Spanish Mackerel and bluefish are scattered along the beach. Peck's Lake is stacked up good with Spanish Mackerel. Looking like great weekend to hit the beach! NOAA Marine Weather: FRIDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 15 KNOTS IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS 4 TO 6 FEET. CHOPPY ON THE INTRACOASTAL WATERS. SATURDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. A MODERATE CHOP ON THE INTRACOASTAL WATERS. SUNDAY...NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS BECOMING EAST 5 KNOTS IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS 2 FEET. Thanks For Reading Good Luck This Weekend, Todd SHOP UPDATE: Check out above flyer for great event next weekend! Don't miss it!
OFFSHORE: Sailfish action has been good this week, and conditions look pretty good for a solid bite this weekend. The "Sailfish Challenge" (one of the largest sailfish tournaments around) is this Friday and Saturday out of Government Cut, Hillsboro Inlet, and Lake Worth Inlets; with the best of the best livebait teams competing over such a large area, somebody is going to find the fish! Depending on the bite and weather conditions, 150-250' of water from Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet may see a lot of kites this weekend. Goggle Eyes and blue runners will be the baits of choice for the kites, threadfins or sardines (if your lucky enough to find them) will make great flatline bait choices. It's not a small boat kinda forecast, but more than likely some sailfish will be around. Dolphin remain mixed in with the sailfish. Most of the dolphin being caught on live baits are decent size fish in the 5-15lb range. Trolling ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid in 200-300' of water should raise some dolphin. The east wind, in theory, should help push them in towards the 120' ledge. Kingfish have been hanging around Jupiter in 100-130' of water over the past week. Trolling baits down deep will get some king bites, as will drifting sardines on a lightly weighted knocker rig. Some decent mutton snapper reports still floating in from the Jupiter drift boat guys, as well as a few cobia starting to show up. No real pattern to the cobia yet, more of where you find them.
INSHORE: Snook fishing remains pretty good for the guys putting the time in to really work them. With colder water temps the snook aren't going to feed all the time or over aggressively, so working with the tide and proper bait presentation is crucial. This time of year smaller snook are going to key in on shrimp; or bigger fish will be looking to eat a big bait once and not eat again for a few days. Deeper water bridges or dark mud flat bottoms will remain the best areas to look for snook right now. The sheepshead have been biting pretty good in Lake Worth/Palm Beach Inlet. Live shrimp on a bottom rig or small jig is a good bet in the inlet right now. In addition to the sheepshead; jacks, assorted snapper, and other various bottom species are all possible on shrimp right now. The Hobe Sound flats are holding a mixed bag of species still. Jacks and ladyfish will provide a bulk of the action, while a redfish or snook will sneak in the mix from time to time. Good mixture of stuff around inshore right now...just have to go look for it. SURF/PIER: Pompano fishing has been good this week from the Juno Beach Pier up to Blowing Rocks Park on Jupiter Island. Sandfleas, clams, and fishbites remain the bait of choice for the pompano. Best bite has been early in the morning and then again late in the afternoon. Bluefish are biting chunks of bait and large silver spoons early and late in the morning as well. Sharks are all over the place right now, and provide great light tackle fun for anyone looking to pull on something a little bit bigger. A fresh chunk of bait (ladyfish, jack, bluefish, etc.) is the best bet to entice a quick bite out of the sharks right now. NOAA Marine Weather: FRIDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS AROUND 20 KNOTS. SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 9 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 6 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS CHOPPY IN EXPOSED AREAS. SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...EAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 8 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SHOP UPDATES: Rumor has it we may have a few customer appreciation specials for the upcoming weekend...Stay Tuned! Thanks For Reading Good Luck This Weekend, Todd OFFSHORE: Rough week again weather wise offshore has kept reports to a minimum. Those that have made it out have been finding a fair number of sailfish around, with some boats getting double digit chances. Live goggle eyes or blue runners under the kite remain the bait of choice for the sailfish; though a thread fin or other smaller bait won't go unnoticed long either. A few nice dolphin in the mix this week with the sailfish. Trolling ballyhoo, strips, or squid in 200-300' of water should raise some dolphin; with a few good size ones around. Scattered kingfish along the 120' ledge; but they have been a little finicky with the funky water conditions and current. Bottom fishing reports have been scarce.
INSHORE: Snook season is back open, and those putting the time in have been finding a few linesiders around. No hot spots for the snook right now; but more of a where you can find them kinda deal. Look for dark mud bottom areas during the day and deeper bridges (especially with good current) to be holding the snook at night. Live shrimp remains a top bait choice for the snook. Jacks and ladyfish are around in fair numbers inshore right now. The cooler water temps should hopefully get any local spotted seatrout biting. Large amounts of freshwater in the river and ICW have fishing tough inshore overall. SURF/PIER: Pompano action has been very good this week from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet this week along the beach. Sandfleas (which are a hot hot commodity right now), clams, and fishbites remain the baits of choice for the pompano right now. Lots of sharks around for those looking for something big to tussle with. Scattered bluefish moving up and down the beach, along with some spanish mackerel. NOAA MARINE FORECAST: FRIDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS BECOMING SOUTHEAST IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 6 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. SATURDAY...NORTH NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 5 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SUNDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 4 TO 6 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 8 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS CHOPPY IN EXPOSED AREAS. SHOP UPDATE: Great looking fresh ballyhoo in-stock for the weekend. The live shrimp have been really nice, and we should have a good amount this weekend as well. Had a few issues on the website to work out, but in the next day or so we should once again have products going up daily again in the online store. Thanks For Reading! Good Luck This Weekend, Todd OFFSHORE: Based on the weather forecast (see below) it doesn't really look like we will be selling a whole lot of offshore bait this weekend. Those that made it out earlier this week found a fair sailfish bite and some scattered dolphin. Sailfish bite has been somewhat spread out, with a bite popping up for a few hours in random spots. The Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet (in 100-200' of water) has remained a consistent spot for the sailfish. Dolphin have been in the same area as well, with the best action coming in 200-300' of water. Still a few nice blackfin tuna around, and a report or two of a wahoo still popping up. A few kingfish have been hanging around the 120' ledges well. Minimal bottom fishing reports came in this week; dirty water (and a rough ocean) has made bottom fishing tough.
INSHORE- Snook season is back open; but the snook (as they usually do at this time of year) are going to make you work for one. During the day look for snook to be laid up around seawalls, boat docks, and on dark mud flats. Snook (like all good native Floridians) don't care much for the cold weather, and will be in areas they can soak up as much heat as possible. Dark mud bottoms with good sun exposure heat up the quickest; and the snook like to seek these out. Cool temps will have the snook moving slow; keep the baits small, presentation slow, and don't get in a hurry. At night look for snook to be around bridges with deep water. Shrimp make up a big part of a snook's diet this time of year, so base lure and bait choices around that. Other action inshore has been fair. The jacks and ladyfish are in their usual spots in fair numbers. A few reports of a trout or two, and occasional redfish, coming in from the Hobe Sound Flats. Still a fair number of sheepshead and black drum being caught around the bridges. SURF/PIER- Pompano have been biting pretty good from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter inlet. Shrimp, sand fleas, clams, and FishBites all remain good bait choices for the pomps. Look for the best action early in the morning and late afternoon. Bluefish are biting well north of Jupiter Inlet. Cut bait and silver spoons remain the baits of choice on the blues. Some croaker and whiting still hanging out in the first trough. Nothing beats a small piece of fresh shrimp for the croaker and whiting. Good numbers of spinner sharks around; but they have been moving around a lot; be prepared to do some driving to find em'! SHOP UPDATE- Super Bowl Sunday we will be closing a little early. Shop Hours will be (6AM-4PM). Be sure to check out our online store...new products going up daily on it! NOAA Marine Forecast: FRIDAY...NORTH WINDS 20 TO 25 KNOTS. SEAS 8 TO 10 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 13 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 7 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SCATTERED SHOWERS. SATURDAY...NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS 4 TO 6 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 8 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. SCATTERED SHOWERS...MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON. SUNDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS 25 TO 30 KNOTS. SEAS 9 TO 11 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 14 FEET. NORTH NORTHEAST SWELL 3 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS ROUGH IN EXPOSED AREAS. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
