SHOP UPDATE: New Year's Eve-Open Regular Hours (7am-6pm) New Year's Day- Open 6am-12pm OFFSHORE- Pretty slow pick this week offshore on the sailfish and dolphin. The sailfish bite seems to be a bit better up to the north (Like north towards Fort Pierce for the trollers). A few sailfish and stray dolphin in 150-250' of water, but less than ideal conditions have kept the bite very very slow. Live goggle eyes and small blue runners are top bait choices, but don't overlook threads, pilchards, or sardines in these calm conditions. Wahoo bite has been pretty solid (especially for this time of year) again this week. The Nomad DTX minnow continues to catch them really good. A bonita strip behind the planer is also a good option for the wahoo. Best depth seems to be that same 120-250' range; with the bite seeming a little better to the south. Snapper fishing slowed a bit this week. Still some pretty good catches; but not quite like it was a week or two ago. Sardines will remain your best bait choice on the bottom. INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been a bit of a grind this week, but those putting in the time have been catching a fair number of them. The Loxhatchee River has had a few fish, as has the ICW north towards Jupiter Island. Live mullet fished around seawalls during the day is a good bet for the snook. At night look for them to be keyed in on shrimp around docelights, bridge fenders, and shadow-lines. A handful of pompano caught inshore this week. It's not big numbers, but keep an eye out for them skipping up behind the boat. When you see them they have been pretty willing to bite a Doc's Goofy Jig. Sheepshead reports inshore have gotten much better this week. Shrimp and sand fleas remain great bait choices for the Sheepshead. SURF/PIER- Despite some awesome weather over the past week; the fishing has left a bit to be desired. Overall action has been slow for the most part; with just enough action to make you have to keep trying! Pompano bite has been almost non-existent this week. Reports from Juno to Hobe Sound have all been pretty quiet on the pompano. One here and one there on the pompano is probably one more than we've heard about most of the week. Thankfully a fair number of croaker and whiting have been around to fill in some of the slack. Small pieces of shrimp, clams, and Fishbites should do the trick for them. Bluefish reports remain pretty slim. Best action on the blues seems to be coming from Hobe Sound north, and will be best during very lowlight periods of the day. Spanish Mackerel have been very hit or miss at the Juno Beach Pier, but a few have been caught this week. Crappie Jigs (which we finally do have back in-stock!) have been the ticket for the Macs. Spanish Mackerel action at Peck's Lake was slow to start the week; but seems to have gotten better and better as the week has gone on. Blacktop shark action improved a bit this week on the beach. Still a little early for the big numbers of them...but not long till they are here in full force! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: Near the calm center of low-level ridging, wind and sea conditions will remain favorable to finish the week. As the ridge moves east in advance of a late weekend frontal passage, conditions will gradually deteriorate. Headline conditions are possible by Saturday afternoon, with Advisory conditions expected by late Sunday night. Poor marine conditions are forecast through Monday, with a gradual improvement then forecast through mid-week. .Gulf Stream Hazards...None. FRIDAY...South southeast winds around 5 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters smooth. SATURDAY...South winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUNDAY...South southwest winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots along the coast to south southwest 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd Let me start this week by first wishing all of our loyal fishing report readers and awesome customers a very very Merry Christmas! And also say THANK YOU for all of the support throughout the year.
SHOP UPDATE: Christmas Eve Hours: 7am-1pm Christmas Day-Closed New Year's Eve- Regular Hours (7AM-6PM) New Year's Day- Open 6AM-12PM OFFSHORE: Tough week offshore for the most part. Hoping that the little cool front that blew through last night helps get the sailfish bite fired up. Sail bite has bounced between about 90-150' of water over the past week. If you can find an area holding a decent amount of bait the sails shouldn't be too far behind. Good north current also helps a lot in finding the sails. Dolphin reports have been pretty slim. This time of year look for the dolphin to be mixed right in with the sailfish. Wahoo fishing remains very strong for this time of year. Pulling a DTX minnow or big bonita strip behind a planer is a great way to go for the wahoo. Best depth for the wahoo will be in the 150-250' range. A few cobia reports trickling in; won't be long before they are here in good numbers. Snapper fishing remains solid in 90-100' of water. INSHORE- Slow week on the inshore side of things. Catch and release snook fishing has been fair. The snook are definitely transitioning into the wintertime shrimp diet. Can still catch them on a Flair Hawk or Swimbait, but the smaller stuff really starts to get bit well this time of year. Sheepshead bite has been pretty good inshore. Live shrimp and Sandfleas will be top bait choices for the sheepshead. Hobe Sound Flats are coming to life more and more with cooling water temps. Live shrimp or a small gold spoon will be top bait choices. SURF/PIER- Slow week on the beach. Pompano reports improved marginally this morning; and the water has started to look better and better. This front could help trigger a little bite out of the pompano. A scattering of bluefish along the beach. The blues have been biting best early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Spanish Mackerel action has been good at Peck's Lake. The Juno Beach Pier produced a nice bite on some good size croakers over the past few days. Fresh shrimp will be the best bait choice for them. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East northeast winds around 10 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...Southeast winds around 5 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters smooth. SUNDAY...West southwest winds 5 knots along the coast to northwest 5 to 10 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- The past week saw quite a swing in weather offshore, and the fishing reports followed along with it. Last weekend saw a way above average wahoo bite for this time of year. Some good numbers of wahoo caught, and the average size was good as well. The usual wahoo trolling methods (trolling a strip or mullet down deep, or a swimming plug) produced bite; as did kite baits probably more meant for sailfish. Enough wahoo and kings around right now to consider adding a short wire trace to those sail baits. Sailfish bite has been pretty consistent over the past week as well. Bite has bounced up and down the line a bit, but from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet remains a solid starting point. Look for the sails to be in 120-250' of water depending on conditions. Live baits under the kite remain the top presentation method; but don't overlook those flatlines or down baits as well. Slower dolphin fishing this week; but still a few around. Snapper fishing slowed just a bit, but remains pretty good. Sardines, squid, and bonita chunks will be top bait choices for the snapper. Could see a cobia or two mixed in with the snapper.
INSHORE- Catch and release only now; but inshore snook fishing remains very good. During the day look for the snook to be tight to seawalls and under boat docks. Areas with good current flow (And current breaks) and ambush points will be ideal starting points. At night the snook have been around the bridges and under docklights. The snook have largely switched to a shrimp diet, so keep that in mind when picking lures. The sheepshead and black drum continue to show up in their usual winter time spots as well in the ICW and Loxahatcheee River. Live shrimp will be a top bait choice for both. The Hobe Sound Flats continue to come to life with cooling temps. Ladyfish, jacks, occasional pompano, small snook, possible sea trout, and a host of other are in that mile marker 40-44 range. SURF/PIER- Surf fishing was a little slower overall this week. Pompano reports fell off drastically again. Those putting in the time on the beach picked away at a few, but no big numbers this week. Bluefish remain scattered up and down the beach in fair numbers. Best bite on the bluefish has been very early morning and late afternoon. The blues are also biting well at night on cut bait. Spanish Mackerel (that had been at the Pier and scattered along the beach, but not so much anymore) are at Peck's Lake in big numbers. A little chum and some spoons is all you need for fast action on the Spanish Mackerel. Sharks have remained around in good numbers. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. SATURDAY...Southeast winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Chance of showers through the day. Slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. SUNDAY...Southwest winds around 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers likely and slight chance of thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- A little bit of a slower week offshore. Dolphin action slowed considerably, but still a few around. Best dolphin action seemed to come in 200-400' of water again, with most of the fish being in small packs and not locked in on structure. Trolling bonita strips and squid has been a good bet for the dolphin. Some decent wahoo reports this week in 150-300' of water. Trolling bonita strips and mullet down deep has been the best bet for the wahoo. Scattered sailfish action this week, but a front later into the weekend/early next week could be just the trigger we need to get them snapping. Live goggle eyes and blue runners under the kite will (as is pretty much ALWAYS is the case!) be the best bet for the sailfish. Bottom fishing has been very good again this week. Strong snapper reports in 90-120' of water. Sardines, squid and bonita chunks have all been solid bait choices on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook season is winding down...time to get after them if your looking to stop one or two away for the next few months. Snook bite remains good, especially at night. Most bridges are still producing a pretty jig bite; with the shrimp jig bite also starting to heat up. Wintertime sheepshead, drum, pompano, ladyfish, and others are beginning to fill into their usual hangouts. Live shrimp will be a top bait choice for all of them. SURF/PIER- Calm clear conditions slowed things down a bit this week surf wise. Pompano action suffered the worst, with no real numbers to speak of. Sounds like most of the pompano catches were north of Fort Pierce this week. Spanish Mackerel action slowed at the pier and on southern beaches; but remains very good at Peck's Lake. Shark fishing remains very good at night. Bluefish are also biting well at night; they haven't been biting all that well during the day for some reason. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East northeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...East southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUNDAY...Northeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Don't get a whole lot of forecasts like this in the wintertime, take advantage of it and get after it! Sailfish action has been fair, with most boats at least getting a couple of chances. Sailfish tournament season is upon us: The "Dust Em' Off" Tournament kicks things off this weekend. The sail bite has moved up and down the line a bit. But day in and day out its hard to beat the area from Juno Beach Pier to Just north of Jupiter Inlet in 150-300' of water for the sails. Live goggle eyes or bluer runners under the kite will be the best bet for the sailfish. Try to find something fishy (bait schools, current rips and edges, etc) to set up on and the sails shouldn't be far behind. Dolphin fishing slowed a bit, but still a fair number of them around. Same depth as the sails (150-300ish) will work for the dolphin; and you may find some out a little deeper as well. The same live baits are good for the dolphin. Trolling bonita strips and squid will also be a very good option for the dolphin. Decent scattering of kingfish along the 120' ledge, including a good number of large ones. Bottom fishing has been very good over the past week. Some really nice mutton snapper, along with a stray grouper, and cobia or two. Sardines and squid will remain top bait choices on the bottom.
INSHORE- Nice mixture of action inshore these days. Snook fishing has still been good, although passing cold fronts will make it a little tougher. Snook action at night around the bridges will remain good, especially on the outgoing tide. Shrimp jig, Flair Hawk, and NLBN Swimbaits all remain good lure choices for the snook. The winter time shrimp bite inshore (Sheepshead, Black Drum, Croakers, Etc) is finally starting to get going good. Look for boat docks with deep water close by to be top spots. Use a light fishfinder/slide rig or a small jighead for best action. Typically a little current will help get the bite fired up a bit. SURF/PIER- Spanish Mackerel action has been very good over the past week. The Juno Beach Pier has been very solid for the Macs, and Peck's Lake is also starting to fire off pretty good. All the usual lures (Crappie Jigs, Got-Cha Plugs, Clark Spoons) will be solid choices for the Mackerel. The best Mackerel bite tends to be early in the morning and then again late in the afternoon, but they can also be picked away at throughout the day generally. Pompano fishing also has been pretty good this week. Sandfleas remain the top bait, and also incredibly hard to come by. Clams, FishBItes, and FishGum are all also working on the pomps. Doc's Goofy Jig is the top lure choice for the pompano on the pier and in the boat. Bluefish action remains fair to good as well. As is generally the case this time of year...the sharks are here in good numbers and ready to test your tackle! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...North northeast winds around 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...East northeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUNDAY...East winds around 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
