Let's start by wishing everyone a safe and happy July 4th Weekend!
Monday July 4th Shop Hours will be 6am-3pm OFFSHORE- Well going into the July 4th weekend I'd love to sit down and write that the fishing is absolutely on fire and the weather is going to be glassed out flat calm...but both those things wouldn't exactly be the truth. Not a terrible marine weather forecast (See below as always), but not quite what you'd expect to see for July. Fishing reports were a bit slower this week, but still some fish around for those putting in the time. Dolphin fishing remains fair to good, with most better reports coming in 800-1200' of water. This time of year you can find scattered fish on open water; but for the best luck it really comes down to finding some kind of fish attracting structure or debris. If weed lines or floating junk isn't to be found; keep a close eye out for current rips, a color change, or large areas of bait (which could be flyers up on top, or marks on the depth finder). In closer the Blackfin Tuna are still around in 200-300' of water in fair numbers. Slide in much shallower than that though and it's likely the bonita show up and eat you out of house and home! Kingfish remain scattered along the 120' ledge in fair numbers, along with the before mentioned bonita in big numbers. Snapper fishing was fair this week. A handful of good mutton snapper reports, along with some nice yellowtail snapper. INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains the best bet inshore wise (as it will for the rest of the summer). Same baits, times, and places for the snook as always...so I won't bore you with all the same details again this week. A few Tarpon, and an occasional jack, are mixed in with the snook in the Loxahatchee River. Mangrove snapper are biting decent in their usual summertime hangouts. Generally snapper fishing will be better at night; but some of the deeper holes and bridges can produce some bites during the day. SURF/PIER- Surf fishing was slow this week. Snook Arte showing up along the beach in fair numbers; but large amounts of seaweed and slime grass is making fishing for them quite difficult. Unfortunately it's been hard to find any meaningful stretch of beach that isn't filled up with the gross combo! The Juno Beach Pier is a fair option though. Snook fishing remains good at the pier. Conditions and time of day will dictate the best bait option for snook on the pier, but generally speaking a live sand perch or croaker will be a good option. A few jacks cruising through, along with a tarpon or two. Fair scattering of Spanish Mackerel and Blue Runners around the pier as well. Jupiter and Lake Worth Inlet are both holding good number of snook as well. A handful of mangrove snapper around Jupiter Inlet. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and tstms. FRI NIGHT...E SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers and tstms after midnight. SAT...E SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and tstms. SAT NIGHT...E SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers and tstms after midnight. SUN...E SE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers and tstms in the morning, then a chance of showers and tstms in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd Alex with a SICK catch...Beautiful Fireback Grouper from a recent Bahamas trip! OFFSHORE- Another good week of fishing offshore this week. Dolphin fishing remains good; with the best dolphin reports coming out deeper. A handful of fish in 400-600'; but the best reports continue to come outside of 1000' of water. Trolling bonita strips, squid, and small ballyhoo remains a good way to go for the dolphin. Still a really good number of sailfish hanging out in 300-400' of water. While the sails will absolutely come up and eat a kite bait on the surface, live baits (Sardines, pilchards, and thread fins especially) fished 5-15' below the surface are the best bets for the sailfish. Still good blackfin reports coming in 200-300' of water. A vertical jig dropped down and ripped back up continues to work; while the bigger blackfins continue to come on baits fished 20-40' down. Lots of bonita along the 120' ledge, along with a decent scattering of kings.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains really good inshore. Lots of ways to catch the snook right now. Good fishing in the river for them during the day. Live mullet fished under boat docks and along seawalls will be a great way to go, especially for the bigger cruising fish. Early in the morning and late late in the afternoon (as the sun is going down) they should get active enough to chase down a topwater. At night the snook have been hanging around the bridges in good numbers. A flair hawk or big swimbait will be a good lure choice. Outgoing tide will most likely be the most productive, but don't overlook incoming tide in certain spots as well. Snook are stacking up in the inlets pretty good as well. A few jacks and tarpon cruising around inshore, but the snook will be the main game in town. Mangrove snapper will be hanging around their usual summertime spots. SURF/PIER- Catch and release snook fishing will be the main game in town along the beach, at the pier, and in the inlets right now. Lots of different ways to catch them, so a really fun time to get out and try different techniques and tactics. The Juno Beach Pier has had a decent number of Spanish Macs around, along with a handful of kings. A fair number of tarpon cruising along the beach; along with a handful of big jacks. Croakers have been biting well in the first trough. Small pieces of shrimp are the ticket for the croakers. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South southwest winds 5 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 2 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...Southwest winds 5 to 10 knots becoming southeast in the afternoon. Seas less than 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. SUNDAY...East southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers in the morning. Chance of thunderstorms. Showers likely in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Lots of good fishing offshore this week, with a pretty solid mixed bag of just about everything you'd expect this time of year. Out deep (don't stop till around 1000') the dolphin fishing remains solid. Getting reports of both scattered small packs of bigger fish, and some decent sized schools of smaller fish as well. Best bet is to try and find some floating debris, big weed-lines, or a defined current rip. Trolling ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid will be a solid way to go for the dolphin. Don't be surprised to see a big blue marlin lurking around those schools of dolphin...been a few reports of them around! Solid sailfish bite going on right now in 300-400' of water. Best sail bite seems to be a little up to the north, but good numbers of fish around. Moving in a little closer the blackfin tuna continue to bite in 250-350' of water very good. Still some good sized ones around as well! A live bait (sardine is always going to be the top choice) fished 15-30' below the surface is a solid bet for the blackfin. Dropping a vertical jig a couple hundred feet down and ripping it back up will also get the blackfin's attention. The all moon this week got the wahoo fired up. Good solid reports of wahoo up and down the line. Trolling a DTX minnow, planer fishing, or live baits fished 10-20' below the surface are all good bets for the wahoo. Scattered kingfish along the 120' ledge; along with pretty much all the bonita you could ever want! Snapper reports improved this week. Some really nice muttons around, along with some good yellowtails.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been really good again this week. Plenty of big girls around right now, and they are hungry. In the river and ICW a topwater plug (hard to top the Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil in bronze) fished along seawalls and boat docks early in the morning is a great choice. As the sun starts to get up a live mullet will take over as the top bait. At night the snook are biting flair hawks and NLBN swimbaits really good on outgoing tide. A few big jacks and some tarpon mixed in with the snook as well. The Inlets are starting to hold really good numbers of fish, and they are biting well on moving water. Mangrove snapper reports continue to remain strong inshore for those looking to bring something home for dinner. Small live pilchards and live shrimp are good bait choices for the snapper. SURF/PIER- So we are really settling into the summertime swing of things on the beach. In other words...pretty safe to put the pompano rods away. Catch and release snook fishing will be about the best bet along the beach right now. Lots of fish cruising the beach, hanging around the pier, and also in the inlets. A live croaker or sand perch tends to be hard for a big snook to pass up. Sightfishing cruising snook in the trough is also starting to improve as well. When it comes to catching those cruising fish keep the lures small and leader light for best luck. Some big jacks cruising the beach, and tarpon schools are really starting to push along the beach as well. The Juno Beach Pier has had a good Spanish Mackerel bite, along with a few kingfish. The Spanish will bite best on small freelanced live baits, while a Rapala X-Rap is the best bet for the kings early and late in the day. The Juno Beach Pier is also starting to produce a few mangrove snapper. Best bet on the snapper will be to fish right as the sun is coming up. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Northeast winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. SATURDAY...West northwest winds around 5 knots becoming south southeast in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUNDAY...South southwest winds 5 to 10 knots becoming southeast in the afternoon. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers and thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd Lots of great Father's Day gift ideas in store right now...Like these great floor rod racks! OFFSHORE- Offshore fishing was good again this week. Dolphin reports remain strong, with the better catches coming deeper than 1000' for the most part. It's getting into a traditional summertime pattern for the dolphin: Find floating debris, think weed lines, current rips, or large areas of bait and the dolphin won't be far behind. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid is always a good choice for the dolphin. Live baits or chunks fished in productive areas with some chum is also a good way to go for the dolphin. Blackfin Tuna bite has remained pretty solid in 250-400' off water. Live baits (sardines are hard to beat) fished 20-30' below the surface is a killer bet for the bigger blackfin. Dropping a vertical jig down 100-200' and ripping it back up is also a good way to target the tuna. Kingfish action remains strong along the 120' ledge. Best bite on the kings will be early in the morning and then again late in the afternoon. Summertime bonita have also filled in quite nicely over the last few weeks in and around the 120' ledge. Yes they can be a pain in the butt; but with the bonita come big wahoo, marlin, and all kinds of other big predators! Bottom fishing reports were a bit slow this week, but look for them to improve this weekend. It's about time for the big muttons to show up.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains the tip game in town. With all the rain over the last week; spillway action has been very good. Lots of big fish around, and willing to eat jigs and big swimbaits. The Loxahatchee River has had good numbers of snook as well. A topwater fished along seawalls early in the morning or in overcast conditions is a killer way to go for the snook. Bridge fishing for snook has also been very good at night. Flairhawks on the outgoing tide have been getting smoked by some big fish. A few big jacks cruising through the ICW as well. Mangrove snapper reports continue to improve on a weekly basis. Live shrimp or small live pilchards will be the top bait choice for there mangroves. SURF/PIER- Snook action is good along the beach and in the inlets right now. Lots of different ways to catch them, and lots of fish around....so take your pick and get after them! Live baits in the inlets or at the Pier will get the bites, throwing the jig at night around the inlet, or sight fishing cruising snook in the trough along the beach are all viable options right now. Generally speaking lowlight periods or night will be best for the snook; but they can be caught throughout the day on the right tidal conditions. The Juno Beach Pier has had a really good Spanish Mackerel bite, along with a handful of kingfish. Small live baits will be the best bet for the Spanish. A large swimming plug (Yo-Zuri Longcast or Rapala X-Rap) is the best bet for the kings. Big jacks continue to cruise the beach, and it is also time to see the tarpon really start pushing north in good numbers. Croakers have been biting good in the first trough. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Southwest winds 5 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 8 seconds becoming 3 seconds in the afternoon. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers in the morning. Chance of thunderstorms. Showers likely in the afternoon. SATURDAY...South southwest winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers in the morning. Slight chance of thunderstorms . Showers likely in the afternoon. SUNDAY...South winds around 10 knots. Seas less than 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd Jonny from Colorado finding a little sanctuary in the sea! OFFSHORE- Not going to be the most pleasant weekend offshore; but the fishing will most likely be pretty good. Dolphin fishing remains solid in 600-1000' of water. Trolling bonita strips and squid remains a solid choice for the dolphin. Blackfin Tuna action remains very very good as well in 250-400' of water. Live sardines fished down deep are the best way to go for the bigger blackfins. A metal vertical jig is also a good way to go for them. Kingfish action has picked back up big time along the 120' ledge. A few cobia still mixed in with the kings as well. Also mixed in with the kingfish have been some big mutton snapper. The muttons love to hangout under the kingfish schools and pick up easy meals drifting down to them.
INSHORE- Snook season is closed; but this should be a great weekend for some really good catch and release action. Between a good amount of wind and rain in the forecast the snook should be in a feeding kind of mood. If the Spillways open up the bite should be absolutely on fire. The Loxahatchee River will also be a safe bet with the wind blowing. A few tarpon and jacks will no doubt be in the mix as well. Mangrove snapper reports continue to improve on a weekly basis. Conditions should be good for them as well this weekend. SURF/PIER- Not the most ideal forecast for a trip to the beach this weekend. Still a few late late season pompano around for those willing to tough it out. Best bite on the pomps will be just before the sun comes up. It's a short window that the pomps bite: As the sun starts to get up in the sky the bite is pretty much over. Snook continue to show up in the surf in better numbers. The weather this weekend will no doubt make it a little tougher to target them. The Juno Beach Pier has been good for mixed bag action. Snook fishing continues to improve. Still a good number of big jacks cruising through. An occasional kingfish and some tarpon as well passing by. Croakers have been biting good in the surf. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South southeast winds 10 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Showers likely in the morning. Chance of thunderstorms through the day. Showers in the afternoon. SATURDAY...South southeast winds around 20 knots with gusts to around 30 knots along the coast to south southeast 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around 35 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Chance of thunderstorms in the morning. Showers . Thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. SUNDAY...Along the coast, west northwest winds around 15 knots becoming north northeast in the afternoon. In the Gulf Stream, west southwest winds around 20 knots becoming north in the evening. Gusts up to 25 knots along the coast to 30 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 5 to 7 feet with occasional to 9 feet in the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning. Chance of showers through the day. Chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
