OFFSHORE- Dolphin reports remain good this week, with most of the fish in 300'-400' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, or squid all seem to be producing bites from the dolphin. NE winds in the forecast will likely have the dolphin in a little closer this weekend. Along with the dolphin; expect the NE wind to fire up the sailfish bite. 150-250' of water seems to be a good depth to start looking for the sailfish. Still a few wahoo caught over the past week (side note- Bahamas wahoo fishing has really started to fire off!). Bottom fishing remained good this week. A fair number of snapper around, and still a fair number of red grouper around as well. Sardines remains the bait of choice on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains good inshore right now. Still a fair number of mullet around, and the snook haven't lost interest yet (As the water begins to cool the snook won't bother to chase down the mullet as readily; and prefer shrimp and smaller easier to digest baits). Flair Hawks, NLBN Swimbaits, and swimming plugs all remain solid lure choices for the snook. The tarpon are still mixed in with the snook, along with some bruiser jacks. Starting to get a few sheepshead reports coming in, along with the occasional inshore pompano as well. Seasons are no doubt shifting. SURF/PIER- Dirty water in on the beach has fishing a bit slow this week. A handful of pompano around, and that should only improve as the water (hopefully) begins to clear up a little. A few bluefish around, with the best action on them coming late in the afternoon into the evening. Cut sardines and mullet are a good bait option for the blues; while a silver spoon or diamond jig typically works good lure wise. The Juno Beach Pier continues to produce a fair number of Spanish Mackerel. White crappie jigs continue to produce the most action on the Macs. A solid number of sharks around these days for those looking for something bigger to pull on. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SAT...NE winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. SUN...NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. N NE swell 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Going to be a bit sporty offshore this weekend; but that north wind will likely fire up the sailfish bite. Ideal conditions to get the kites out and look for the sails tailing down the waves. With varying water conditions its hard to say what will be the prime depth; but if we get a well defined blue/green edge in 150-250' that will be the place to start. If the dirty green water is further offshore (Hopefully the east wind pushes the blue water in) don't be afraid to set up a little deeper. Expect a fair number of dolphin, including some bigger ones, to be in the same areas as the sails. A few wahoo were caught early in the week on the backside of the moon. A split tail mullet or big bonita strip behind a planer is the way to go for the wahoo right now. Bottom fishing was fair this week, including some good fishing for Vermillion Snapper in 180-250' with slower current early in the week.
INSHORE- First cool front of the season slowed snook fishing down just a bit; but expect them to be back to biting good over the weekend. Still a good number of finger mullet inshore, and the snook are keyed in on them (with that said...also starting to get bites on the shrimp jig as well!). Mixed in with the snook have been a pretty good number of tarpon, a few bruiser jacks, and still a stray redfish or two. As the mullet run does taper off and the weather cools down a bit, look for the sheepshead and black drum fishing to start to pick up inshore. Also, a handful of Pompano reported in the ICW up north this week. A small bright colored Doc's Goofy Jig is the way to go for the pompano. SURF/PIER- Pretty good mixed bag action along the beach this week. Still some late season pods of mullet coming down the beach, with all the usual suspects around them. Snook haven't totally left the beach, but they are beginning to thin out. They are largely being replaced with good numbers of Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. Jacks and Ladyfish are also scattered along the beach in fair numbers. Pompano reports were good this week, with the Juno Beach Pier having a few good days on the pomps. A bright colored Doc's Goofy jig remains the top producer for the pompano. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft along the coast and 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft in the Gulf Stream. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of tstms in the morning. A chance of showers. A chance of tstms in the afternoon. . SAT...N NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters light chop. SUN...N NE winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd It's about that time... OFFSHORE- Reports were again a bit slow offshore this week. A handful of dolphin reports continue to come in. Most of the better dolphin reports seem to be coming in from 700-1000' of water. Standard dolphin fishing...find something floating, a good current rip or color change, or temp break and the dolphin will be in the area. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid are all good choices. Still been a fair number of smaller blackfin tuna in 300-400' of water. Most of the tuna are smaller, but a few good ones in the mix (especially on the vertical jigs). Scattering of kingfish along the 120' ledge, but not great numbers. Doesn't sound like the full moon wahoo bite is red hot(It does sound like the Bahamas wahoo bite got going though!), but a few are being caught in 150-250' of water. Trolling split tail mullet and Nomad DTX Minnows continues to work for the wahoo. Mixed reports on the bottom fishing. One day the snapper bite good, the next its a terrible current and a slow bite. We are seeing a fair number of red grouper around (Often the case following a hurricane that moves through the Gulf of Mexico).
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains very good inshore, along with a fair variety of other species as well. Still a solid number of finger mullet around, and the snook are not far behind them. Smaller tarpon are also hanging around the finger mullet schools in good numbers. The finger mullet will get up on the surface during lowlight periods of the day or at night making them easier to find. During the day look for them in protected canals and areas without a lot of boat traffic. Along with the snook and tarpon, reports include ladyfish, jacks, and even a handful of redfish. All kinds of good reports from www.countylinecharters.com this week. SURF/PIER- Fishing along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier remained pretty good this week, despite less than ideal water conditions. The mullet run has largely wound down along the beach; with a few pods still likely to come cruising through. The bulk of the action has moved to fall/winter species for the most part. Spanish Mackerel, bluefish, jacks, ladyfish, and a few pompano are making up a bulk of the action. At the Juno Beach Pier it has been the above species, with a few kingfish and a scattered redfish or two still in the mix. For all around action a bobber rig with a clark spoon is a really good choice. Doc's Goofy Jigs in bright colors are also a good way to go for pompano and a mixed bag of just about everything else. A large swimming plug (Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri Hydro Longcast Minnow) is a good choice for the kingfish. Live shrimp is the way to go for the last of the redfish around. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N NW winds 5 to 10 kt becoming N NE 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. A slight chance of tstms in the morning. A slight chance of showers. SAT...NE winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. A slight chance of showers. SUN...E NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd Sometimes they need a hug too! @allwatertripp taking advantage of the killer inshore fishing right now! Give Tripp a follow on IG... don't be fooled though www.arushcharters.com is teaching him all the tricks! OFFSHORE- Slim reports this week from offshore. Rough conditions and less than ideal water quality out to the edge hasn't made anybody rush offshore too fast. Some pretty good dolphin reports (mostly smaller fish...but decent numbers) early in the week when conditions were a little better. Most of the fish were in 600-800' of water and caught around floating debris leftover from the storm. The weekend forecast looks pretty sport; but for those who wanted to brave it we could/should see a nice sailfish bite. Won't be ideal conditions to fish for them; but could also seem some wahoo around this week with the moon getting bigger. Bottom reports were slim this week due to lousy water conditions in on the reef.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remained strong inshore this week. Finger mullet schools are still around in good numbers and the snook aren't far behind. The mullet will move best during lowlight periods and at night. A Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil or Mag Darter remain top lure choices. Still a lot of freshwater coming out of the spillways, but overall hasn't slowed the snook fishing down too much. Still a god number of tarpon mixed in with the snook. Other inshore action has been on the slower side. SURF/PIER- Dirty water and rough conditions kept surf fishing a bit slow. Still a fair amount of mullet coming down the beach: Still a few tarpon and snook mixed in with them, but bluefish are starting to make up a bulk of the action. Definitely time to start moving away from the soft plastics on the beach and moving towards spoons and plugs. The Spanish Mackerel have been biting very good at the Juno Beach Pier. A bobber rig with a Clark spoon is a solid choice for the macs. A few redfish were caught at the pier in the dirty water as well this week. Pompano (mostly shorts) have also been around in good numbers this week. A bright colored Doc's Goofy jig is the lure of choice for the pomps. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers. A slight chance of tstms. SAT AND SAT NIGHT...E NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 25 kt along the coast to E NE 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt in the Gulf Stream. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. A slight chance of showers in the morning. A slight chance of tstms. A chance of showers. SUN AND SUN NIGHT...E NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt along the coast to E 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt in the Gulf Stream. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. A chance of showers and tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
