First...Thanks everybody for all the support this crazy year. Second...Want to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas!
OFFSHORE: Looks like the sailfish should bite really good this weekend. Looking a little rough, but the sails should be snapping. Ideal depth will most likely be in the 120-200' range depending on water conditions. Look for rips, color changes, or a lot of flying fish getting up as a good starting point. Live goggle eyes or blue runners under the kite will be the baits of choice for the sailfish. Look for some good dolphin and maybe a wahoo or two to be in the mix as well. Kingfish bite has been good along the 120' ledge as well. A handful of cobia are hanging in 90-120' of water as well. INSHORE: Sheepshead and Black drum action has been good inshore this week. Live shrimp, or fiddler crabs if you can find them, are the bait of choice for them. Look for them to be around bridges, or boat docks with good barnacle growth. Snook fishing has been good over the past week in the river; but it may slow this weekend with the cold front. This front could really help fire up the inshore pompano bite, and maybe move some tripletail in as well. SURF/PIER: Good number of Spanish Mackerel around this week. They have been scattered along the beach, and also hanging around the Juno Beach Pier. Along the beach the "bobber rig" with a Clark Spoon is the best choice for the macs. At the Pier a white crappie jig is the best bet for the macs. Scattering of bluefish around still, but big numbers of them remain to be seen. A few more pompano around this week, and with this better front we should see some more fish push down this way. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Northwest winds 15 to 25 knots with gusts to around 35 knots. Seas 6 to 8 feet with occasional seas to 10 feet. Period 6 seconds. SATURDAY...North winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet. SUNDAY...Northeast winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish bite has been good the past few days, with many boats getting five or more chances. Live goggle eyes or blue runners under the kite remain the best bet for the sails. Best depth remains 120-150' for the most part, but main bounce in or out depending on water conditions and what's around bait wise. Fair number of dolphin around, along with a good number of kings. Wahoo are still scattered along the edge as well. Snapper fishing was fair this week.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been good this week, especially in the river. Live mullet along the seawalls has been the ticket for the bigger snook, as well as bruiser jacks. Look for seawalls that have darker mud bottoms to be the most productive. Sheepshead and black drum have shown up inshore in pretty good numbers. LIve shrimp is always a good bait choice for them. SURF/PIER- Good Spanish Mackerel action this week along the beach and at the Pier. Crappie jigs, diamond jigs, and small swimming plugs have all been doing the trick as of late on the macs. Some scattered bluefish around, but no big numbers to speak of. Slim pickings for the most part on the pompano this week. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: SATURDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. .SATURDAY NIGHT...Southeast winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to east southeast 10 to 15 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. .SUNDAY...South winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to south around 10 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. OFFSHORE: Looks like a pretty good weekend for a trip offshore. Sailfish will dominate most of the action (largely due to more people fishing for them!) offshore. Pretty solid action on the sails over the past few weeks both to the north and south, so flip a coin on the best spot to find them! Live goggle eyes and runners under a kite are going to be a safe bet for the sailfish. Dolphin, including some good size ones, are mixed in with the sailfish. Up to the north the bigger Blackfin Tuna are also mixed in with the Sails. Kingfish action has been very good along the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing has been mixed this week. Still a pretty fair number of red grouper being caught, along with some snapper. A few scattered cobia in the mix as well. Sardines will be the best bait for the bottom.
INSHORE: Inshore fishing was pretty good this week. Wintertime sheepshead and black drum are filling in the ICW in pretty good numbers, and are biting fresh shrimp good. Live crabs, if you can catch them, are always going to be really good for the sheepshead as well. Sandperch are biting well in the ICW this week on shrimp as well. Last weekend of snook season, and with warming temps outside (And hopefully a little bump up in water temps) should be a decent weekend to try and find them. During the day look for the snook to be over dark shallow mud flat bottoms soaking up the sun. At night the snook will be around the bridges looking for a shrimp dinner. Shrimp jigs or live shrimp will be the best choice for the snook right now. Present the baits up current and let the current carry the shrimp naturally right to the snook. When the water is cold they aren't going to move fast or far, so keep it slow. SURF/PIER: The change in weather this week helped kick off a really good Spanish Mackerel bite. The Macs have bounced around location wise, with fish being caught from Peck's Lake to south of the Juno Beach Pier. If your fishing for them from the boat a block of chum and some glass minnows, along with assortment of clack spoons and jigs should do the trick. From the beach a diamond style jig or casting bobber w/ a Clark Spoon is a solid choice. From the Pier it's hard to beat a white crappie jig, just keep the tackle light with it for best results. A lot of people going pompano fishing over the past week, not so many going pompano catching. Scattered reports on the pompano, but overall it still remains pretty hit or miss on them. Sandfleas, fresh cut shrimp, clams, and FishBItes will give you the best chance at the pompano. Bluefish action has been pretty good at Hobe Sound Beach. Whiting/Croakers are also biting pretty good in the first trough on pieces of shrimp. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 8 seconds becoming 3 seconds in the afternoon. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...East southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. .SATURDAY NIGHT...Southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUNDAY...South southeast winds around 5 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters smooth. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Looks like another semi-promising weekend offshore coming up. Sailfish bite has been good up to the north for the trollers, and good down south for the livebait guys. Best depth has varied by location, and water quality, but 120-225' has remained pretty solid. Fair number of dolphin, including some good size ones, mixed in with the sails. KIngfish are also in with them as well. The wahoo bite has slowed as the week has gone on; but still a few around for sure. Snapper fishing has been fair this week. A few cobia in the mix as well.
INSHORE- Snook season is winding down...get after them now! The shrimp jig bite is on fire right now around the bridges. Come by and see us at the shop and we can get you set up with the right shrimp jigs. Flair hawks are also a good choice around the bridges. Live shrimp will also work good for the snook. Other inshore action has improved with cooling water temps as well. The flats in Hobe Sound and Munyan Island are starting to come to life with a mix bag of species. SURF/PIER- Spanish Mackerel showed up in good numbers this week, along with a nice little push of bluefish. Pompano action remains a bit slow, but a few reports of some keepers coming in. Blacktip sharks are on the beach in pretty solid numbers as well. Water got a little dirty at the time of report writing; but as it cleans up fishing should improve. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY...West winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers. SUNDAY...Northeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
