OFFSHORE: Another mixed bag week of fishing offshore. Sailfish action remains scattered up and down the line. Still a good number of sails around, but more small packs than a large concentration. Dolphin are around in fair numbers as well, with some good size ones. Look for the dolphin to be in smaller packs as well; and not so much in large schools. The kingfish remain scattered along the ledge. Again...not huge schools of kingfish but the ones around have been good sized. Snapper fishing remains good along the bottom.
INSHORE: Snook fishing was pretty good this week, and should continue to improve from here on out. Look for the bridges to hold snook on the outgoing tide. Shrimp is still the main diet for the snook. The Loxahatchee River has been productive this week, with some big jacks cruising around. Been a few sheepshead and black drum hanging around the bridges as well. Not great fishing, but not bad fishing either! SURF/PIER: The spinner sharks are around in fair numbers, and lots of fun to catch on topwater lures. Scattered bluefish and spanish mackerel around. Pompano fishing remains a bit hit or miss. Croakers are biting well in the first trough. Hopefully the east/northeast wind in the forecast helps fire up the fish some! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...NORTH NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 9 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. SATURDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS AROUND 5 KNOTS BECOMING NORTH NORTHEAST IN THE EVENING. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS SMOOTH. SUNDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS CHOPPY IN EXPOSED AREAS. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Pretty solid week of offshore fishing this week. The sailfish have been biting pretty good, with most boats up and down the line getting at least a few shots; and a few boats getting double digit chances. Live goggle eyes or blue runners are the way to go for the sailfish. Some nice dolphin mixed in with the sailfish. Pretty standard wintertime dolphin pattern...not going to find huge schools of them, but the ones you do find will need a gaff. Still some big kingfish hanging around as well. The kingfish won't be stacked in huge numbers either, but again; the ones around have been pretty big. Bottom fishing remains strong for this time of year.
INSHORE: Snook fishing remains pretty good. The bridges will continue to produce best at night, especially on an outgoing tide. Shrimp remains the bait of choice for the snook, but throwing a jig or large swim bait could also excite a strike from a lurking slob. Overall the snook are not terribly aggressive this time of year, so try and keep your presentation on the slower side for best results. The flats around JD MaCarthur State Park continue to produce mixed bag action. Some snook, trout, sheepshead, ladyfish, and jacks around the flats to keep things interesting. SURF/PIER: The big news this week was the arrival of a good number of blacktop and spinner sharks from Jupiter to Singer Island. The sharks have been a bit spooky, so target them in lowlight conditions for best results. Large topwater plugs, large swimming plugs, or fresh cut bait is a good way to go for the sharks. Pompano fishing has been spotty. Spanish mackerel and bluefish remain scattered up and down the line. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...EAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 5 FEET. PERIOD 6 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS LIGHT CHOP. SATURDAY...SOUTH SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. SUNDAY...WEST SOUTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS BECOMING NORTHWEST 5 TO 10 KNOTS IN THE EVENING. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Sailfish action remains scattered up and down the line. No big numbers of sails, but a few boats are seeing multiple fish. Scattered dolphin in 150-300' of water. Trolling bonita strips and squid is a good bet for the dolphin. Look for the dolphin to be in small packs and not schooled up in large numbers; be prepared to cover some water to find the dolphin. Kingfish are scattered up and down the line. The kings aren't schooled up in big numbers either; but the ones being caught are BIG! Some solid 40 to 50lb kings have been caught over the past week in 80-100' of water. Drifting dead sardines on a lightly weighted knocker rig is a good way to go for the kings. Snapper fishing remains good. Some solid mutton snapper and nice yellowtail being caught.
INSHORE: Snook fishing has been improving this week. The big fish aren't stacked up in numbers, but lots of numbers around. Shrimp is the main diet of snook right now so keep that in mind when choosing lures. Look for the snook to bite best on the outgoing tide. Flats fishing remains fairly good. Live shrimp is a good bait choice for catching a wide variety of species inshore right now. SURF/PIER: Pompano fishing has improved this week, with a few more fish being caught south of Jupiter Inlet. Still no big numbers, but that could change almost any day. Clams and sand fleas remain the baits of choice for the pompano. The spinner sharks are starting to show in better numbers this week. Bluefish and spanish mackerel remain scattered along the beach. Looks like it could be a pretty fishy weekend. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET ALONG THE COAST AND 6 TO 8 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL TO 10 FEET IN THE GULF STREAM. PERIOD 7 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS CHOPPY IN EXPOSED AREAS. SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...EAST SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Nicest looking weekend forecast we've had in a while coming up. Sailfish action remains pretty good with most boats getting a few shots a trip. No big concentrations of fish anywhere from the sounds of things; more a steady pick up and down the line. Dolphin fishing also remains fair with some decent catches coming in 200-300' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid is a good way to go for the dolphin. While structure is important, it's more likely to find small pods of dolphin in open water, around current rips, or in areas with lots of bait. Be prepared to cover some water to find them; the plus side is when you do find them the average size is pretty good. Kingfish are scattered nicely along the edge. Drifting sardines in 90-120' of water is very likely to get some king bites right now. Snapper fishing remains good in 70-90' of water from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet. Mixed in with the snapper should be a few cobia.
INSHORE: Snook season is back open and initial reports sound promising. Takes a little work and some luck, but those putting the time are catching some snook. The bridges are producing at night, with live shrimp being a solid bait choice. Flair hawks, smaller swimbaits, and shrimp jigs will also work. Look for the outgoing tide to produce best. Other inshore action remains spotty. Some sheepshead around with a few black drum mixed in. A few scattered reports of some trout and redfish on the flats. A few pompano are still being caught in the Loxahatchee River. SURF/PIER: Pompano fishing improved this week. Best action on the pomps remains north of Jupiter Inlet, but a few are still being picked south of the inlet as well. Sandfleas, clams, and fish bites remain the bait of choice for the pompano. Spanish mackerel are biting well in Peck's Lake. Some cobia starting to move along the beach as well. Been a handful of snook hanging around the pier. Shark reports are starting to trickle in. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. PERIOD 4 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. SATURDAY...NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. SUNDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS AROUND 5 KNOTS BECOMING NORTH IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET ALONG THE COAST AND 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL TO 6 FEET IN THE GULF STREAM. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
