OFFSHORE- Pretty slow week offshore for the most part. Sailfish action continues along at a slow pick, and based on weather forecast it doesn't look like that will change drastically either this weekend. Strong southeast wind could help push up a nice dolphin bite though. When conditions get like this its hard to say exactly where the best spot will be for the dolphin, but 200-400' of water is generally a good depth range to start the search. Trolling bonita strips, squid, and ballyhoo is a good choice for the dolphin. Kingfish action remains scattered along the 120' ledge. Snapper fishing remains good along the bottom, with sardines the top bait choice.
INSHORE- Snook fishing continues to improve with warming air and water temps. About time to start seeing some springtime mullet roll through, although no reports yet to speak of yet on them. The springtime mullet will really fire the snook up, and also bring the big jacks inshore. Other inshore action remains a bit slow. A scattering of jacks up the Loxahatchee River. The flats around Mile Marker 40 in the ICW are producing a nice little mixed bag of action. Ladyfish, jacks, occasional pompano, and a few others are all possible catches up that way. SURF/PIER- Slow surf fishing this week again. A few scattered pompano reports up and down the line, but no big numbers to speak of. Bluefish action has been fair, primarily late afternoon or at night. Spanish Mackerel action remains good at Peck's Lake. Spinner shark action has been fair, but not quite like you would expect for this time of year. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East southeast winds 5 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY...East southeast winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUNDAY...Southeast winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots along the coast to southeast 15 to 20 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Not much to write home about this week. Sailfish bite remains fair. No huge body of fish, but for the most part everybody is seeing at least a fish or two on every trip. Dolphin remain mixed in with the sailfish. The dolphin for the most part seem to be in the 5-10lb range. Don't expect large schools of dolphin, instead look for them to be in small three to five fish packs for the most part. Best depth for the sails and dolphins has been in 150-225' water. Kingfish remain scattered up and down the 120' ledge in fair numbers. Bottom fishing remains good, especially a little up to the north. Knock on wood...the shark problem does not to seem to be as big of a problem as you get north of Jupiter Inlet up towards the Loran Tower.
INSHORE- Snook fishing has started to improve with the warming weather. The snook are biting live shrimp and shrimp imitating lures (DOA Shrimp, Savage Manic Shrimp, Vudu Shrimp, Etc) well around docklights. The shrimp jig bite remains hot around the bridges, especially on outgoing tide. During the day the snook remain locked pretty tight to seawalls and under boat docks. Sheepshead and black drum are still biting pretty good in the ICW. Fresh cut shrimp is the way to go. Hobe Sound Flats continue to produce some nice mixed bag action on ladyfish, jacks, and assorted other stuff. SURF/PIER- Slower week along the beach this week. Bluefish action is till fair at night, with fresh cut bait being the way to go for them. Blacktip/Spinner sharks also biting pretty good at night in the right areas. Pompano action slowed this week; with the best reports seeming to come in from Hobe Sound and north. Sandfleas, Clams, FishBites, and FishGum remain the bait of choice for the pompano. Spanish Mackerel action has remained pretty solid this week as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South southwest winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots along the coast to south southwest 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 30 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Chance of showers through the day. Slight chance of thunderstorms. SATURDAY...North northeast winds around 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 5 to 7 feet with occasional to 9 feet in the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUNDAY...East winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots along the coast to east northeast around 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet along the coast and 5 to 7 feet with occasional to 9 feet in the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- A little slow on the offshore reports this week. Scattering of dolphin being caught in 200-300' of water. Not huge numbers of dolphin but the average size seems to be pretty decent. Trolling ballyhoo or bonita strips is a good bet for the dolphin. Sailfish action remains spotty at best. Still pretty good chance of seeing a fish or two every time you put the kites up; but double digit release days remain few and far between for the most part. Kingfish are scattered up and down the 120' ledge in good numbers, along with a stray wahoo or two. Bottom fishing reports remain pretty solid. Good mixture of snapper around, along with a few cobia mixed in.
INSHORE- Snook fishing has been fair to good depending on the day and spot. The shrimp jig bite remains pretty solid, especially when you can manage to catch the tide right. Orange, pink, and gold glitter shrimp tails have been the best bet for the snook for the most part. Sheepshead have been biting well inshore. Sandfleas and live shrimp are a solid choice for the sheepshead, and also for black drum. Pompano reports remain pretty good up on the Sailfish Flats in Stuart. Doc's Goofy Jigs are a solid choice for the pomps. The Hobe Sound flats are holding a good number of ladyfish and small jacks. SURF/PIER- Surf fishing seemed to improve this week. Bluefish, including some good size ones, showed up in better numbers. While you can pick away at them during the day, the best action has actually been at night. The Juno Beach Pier is still open at night and has been a great spot for the bluefish. Fresh chunks of cut bait will be the best bet for the blues. The spinner/blacktip sharks are here in good numbers as well. If you find them in the right spot grouped up you can get the on topwater lures early/late in the day; but the best bet for them remains chunks of bait at night. Pompano action was fair this week. Best action on the pompano still seems to be up north a bit. Croaker and whiting are biting small pieces of shrimp in close. Spanish Mackerel action remains very good at Peck's Lake. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South southeast winds around 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers in the afternoon. SATURDAY...South winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers in the afternoon. SUNDAY...South southeast winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to south 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Good fishing towards the end of the week. Sailfish action seemed to perk up (still not big numbers, but improving) this week with the cold front. Pretty consistent action on the sailfish from the Juno Beach Pier up to the Loran Tower in 150-200' of water. Good number of dolphin mixed in with the sails as well this week. A lot of the dolphin are in the 5-10lb range, with a few over 20lbs in the mix. The dolphin are happy to eat those expensive goggle eyes and blue runners; but trolling some small to medium sized ballyhoo should also work pretty well. Bonita strips and squid also remain a good option for the dolphin. Scattering of kingfish, and maybe a wahoo or two, along the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing reports were a bit slower this week (Largely due to the weather), but should improve into the weekend.
INSHORE- Snook season opened on the slow side this week (Not surprising considering we saw our hardest front of the winter pass through). Still a few snook around to be caught, just takes a little extra work to get em! The shrimp jig remains a top choice for them at night around the bridges. Present it properly (Swimming slowly with the tide or hopped off the bottom) with the current and the most stubborn of snook can't help but take a swipe at it. Sheepeshead and black drum action remains pretty good in the ICW, and has been very good as you get up towards Stuart. Scattering of pompano action inshore this week, but again better up to the north for the most part. SURF/PIER- The Juno Beach Pier saw some pretty good action over the past few days. Some big schools of jacks pushing through, and for the most part have been fairly willing to jump on a popper or GT Ice Cream in quick order. Spanish mackerel continue to bite pretty good, along with a fair number of bluefish. Pompano action remains a bit inconsistent, but enough around to make it worth trying for them. It's super early in the season, but a dead sardine on the bottom could get you a snook bite or two as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 25 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...South southeast winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to south 5 to 15 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers in the morning. Chance of thunderstorms. Showers likely. SUNDAY...West winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to west southwest 5 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers likely and chance of thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
