OFFSHORE- Mixed bag Springtime fishing offshore right now, with a wide variety of species around. Sailfish are still around in fair numbers up and down the line. Best depth for them remains 150-225' of water, but that will vary day to day based on conditions. Blackfin Tuna are starting to make their springtime presence known. Trolling small feathers ids a good way to get numbers, small livebaits (pilchards, threads, sardines, etc) are the way to go for the bigger blackfin. Cobia reports are starting to come in a little more regularly, with most of them coming in 100-120' of water. Sardines will be the best bait choice for the cobia. Snapper fishing remains pretty good on the bottom. Kingfish are starting to make a little springtime push as well.
INSHORE- Snook fishing continues to improve on a weekly basis. Warming water temps continue to help get them fired up and feeding better by the day. The arrival of springtime mullet is also helping getting the inshore fishing fired up a little more as well. Snook, tarpon and big jacks all like to track down the mullet right now. Unlike the fall the spring mullet run is quick, and the fish don't let it go to waste. Bridge fishing for snook has been good, especially on an outgoing tide. The Hobe Sound Flats continue to produce a nice assortment of fish early in the morning and late in the afternoon as well. SURF/PIER- Pompano fishing remained good this week. Not quite the numbers of a few weeks ago, but still a lot of good catches coming in. The pomps are biting best early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Sandfleas have been the bait of choice, with clams and FishBItes coming in a close second. At the Juno Beach Pier the pompano have been biting Doc's Goofy jigs the best. Seems like the hot color has changed on a nearly daily basis; with gold, yellow, pink, and orange seeming to be pretty good producing colors. The Juno Beach Pier is still producing some Spanish Mackerel on 1/8oz white crappie jigs. Other mackerel action (Especially Peck's Lake) has slowed drastically, and may end up being largely over for the season after the swell last weekend. The Spinner Sharks are around in really good numbers right now. Bluefish action has been pretty good this week, with some larger ones in the mix. Get after them now...they won't be around a whole lot longer! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY...East southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUNDAY...South southeast winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to south southeast 10 to 15 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish action remains pretty good offshore. The fish have bounced around a bit, but still pretty good numbers for the most part. Not exactly the nicest looking boating forecast for the weekend...but it does look like some pretty ideal sailfish conditions! Fair number of dolphin mixed in with the sailfish. Look for the 150-250' depth range to be pretty productive. Kingfish remain scattered along the 120' ledge in fair numbers. A few cobia are around. Bottom fishing reports remain pretty good. Sardines will be the top producing baits on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook fishing continues to improve as the weather warms. A mild front this weekend may slow them down just a bit, but overall look for it to be the best bet inshore. Starting to see more and more springtime mullet pushing around inshore, and the snook are definitely starting to key in on them. Look for seawalls with good current flow and ambush spots to be the best areas for the snook. Mixed in with the snook should be some big jacks, and maybe a tarpon or two. The Hobe S\und Flats are still holding a nice mixed bag variety of fish. Live shrimp, gold spoons, or Gulp! baits are good choices up that way. With rough ocean forecast for the weekend don't be surprised to see some pompano get pushed inshore. SURF/PIER- The spring Pompano run kicked off in full effect last weekend into the early part of the week. Good numbers of pompano, most being very good size, have been being caught from Singer Island up to Jupiter Island. Best section of beach has bounced around from day to day, but even the bad spots continue to produce a few bites. The usual baits (sandfleas, clams, FishBItes, FishGum) are doing the trick on the pompano. On the Juno Beach pier the pomps are biting Doc's Goofy Jigs very well early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Bright color Goofy Jigs seem to be producing the best. Spanish Mackerel have been biting white crappie jigs well at the pier. Still a scattering of Bluefish around. Good number of Blacktip sharks around as well. The bad news is the weather is not looking very conducive to surf fishing this weekend. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...West winds 10 to 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Chance of showers. Slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. SATURDAY...North winds around 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers in the afternoon. SUNDAY...North northwest winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet along the coast and 7 to 9 feet with occasional to 11 feet in the Gulf Stream. North northeast swell 3 to 6 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish contiunue to bite in pretty good numbers over the past few days, along with a good number of dolphin. Best action has been 150-225' of water, with the best spot moving up and down the line from day to day. Live baiting with goggle eyes and small blue runners remains the top choice for the sailfish. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid have all been safe bets for the dolphin. Blackfin Tuna are beginning to make their springtime showing. Kingfish action improved as well this week. Bottom fishing was good this week, with a nice mixed bag of snapper coming in.
INSHORE- Snook fishing was good this week. Some springtime mullet pushing around inshore right now, and the snook are definitely keen to take advantage of their arrival. During the day a mullet fished along seawalls and under boat docks is going to be a really good way to go. At night look for most bridges to be holding a good number of snook. Outgoing tide will be the best bet for the snook. Bigger swimbaits and Flairhawk jigs are a good bet for the snook right now at night. Still a few pompano inshore up in Stuart biting Goofy Jigs. The Hobe Sound Flats are producing a little mixed bag of action. SURF/PIER- Surf fishing was slow to start the week, but improved drastically with cleaning water conditions. Pompano fishing improved this week both along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Along the beach sandfleas, clams, FishBites, and FishGum remain the top bait choices for the pompano. At the pier the pomps are biting Doc's Goofy Jigs in bright colors well. Early morning and late afternoon have been the best bet for the pompano. Spanish Mackerel action remains good at the pier on white crappie jigs. When the bite slows down a bit try tipping the crappie jigs with a little bit of shrimp to enhance the bite. A handful of kingfish have been caught on the pier on X-Raps and that should only continue to improve moving forward. Decent number of croakers around in the first trough on small pieces of shrimp. Bluefish action has remained fairly good, especially at night. The spinner sharks are here in good numbers, they have just been moving around a pretty good amount. Where you find them one day definitely doesn't guarantee they will be back in the same place the next day. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East northeast winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY...East northeast winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY...South southeast winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish bite has been really good over the past week (FINALLY!), with boats finally getting some double digit chances. The bite has bounced up and down the line, but pretty much anywhere you stop and put them out in 150-200' of water has a pretty good chance of producing some bites. As always look for good current, large area of baits, and well defined color changes and current rips for the best chances. Live goggle eyes and blue runners under the kite will be the best bet for the sailfish. If you can track down some smaller baits (Pilchards, sardines, threadfins, etc) keep them on a flatline for hungry springtime dolphin and blackfin tuna that will also be in the same areas. Kingfish remain scattered up and down the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing has been pretty fair this week. A fair assortment of snapper around, springtime banded rudderfish showing up, and a few cobia as well. Sardines will be a top bait choice for all of them.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains pretty good for those putting the time in. The bridge bite has been good at night. The smaller shrimp jig bite is being replaced by the flairhawk jig; a sure sign the snook are getting more active as they are becoming more receptive to the bigger baits. The snook are feeding around boat docks during the day in the Loxahatchee River, with live mullet being the top choice. Look for walls and docks with good current to be the top spots for the snook. The big jacks are starting to cruise inshore a little bit. A few scattered tarpon reports continue to come out of the Loxahatchee River as well. SURF/PIER- The Juno Beach Pier was a little better this week. Still a good number of Spanish Mackerel around, with the 1/8oz white crappie jig being the lure of choice. Pompano were also biting a little better off the pier as well this week. Doc's goofy jig in bright colors (green, pink, and orange) remains the way to go for the pompano. Sandfleas, Clams, FishGum, and FishBItes will work on the pompano for those looking to use bait. Bluefish action remains pretty good at night. Spinner/blacktip sharks are here in good numbers right now...time to get after them if that's your thing! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Northeast winds around 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY...Southeast winds 10 to 15 knots becoming north northeast 5 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. SUNDAY...Northeast winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots. Seas 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. Chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
