OFFSHORE- This week saw a mixed bag of weather, and fair fishing at best. Upcoming weekend forecast doesn’t look good for most. Sailfish remain scattered up and down the line. No huge numbers to speak of, but pretty consistent number of chances for just about everybody. It’s fairly safe to assume that if you put the kites up and fish from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet you will get 2-3 chances a day on the sails. Look for good north current, defined current rips or color changes, and large areas of bait (namely flying fish on top, or marks down deep on the sounder) and the numbers of sailfish should change as well. Dolphin remain mixed in with the sails in fair numbers. Ideal depth for both the sails and dolphin will be 150-250’ of water. Should be some wahoo around with the moon. Speaking of wahoo…some really sweet new colors in the DTX Minnow from Nomad lures hit this week in the shop; the wahoo should eat them up! Kingfish have been scattered along the 120’ ledge in fair numbers. Bottom fishing remained pretty strong this week, with some good numbers of mutton snapper around along with a stray cobia or two as well. Sardines remains the bait of choice on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook season opens on Monday, but don’t expect it to go off based on the weather report. Strong cold front will have them slowed down pretty good for sure. Shrimp jig at night around the bridges is going to be a good bet for the snook. Fish it low and slow for best results, and be prepared to work for the bites. Other inshore action was spotty this week. Some good sheepshead and black drum reports. The Hobe Sound Flats have had a nice mixed bag of species hanging around. Ladyfish, small jacks, pompano, trout, and small snook have all been on the flats between mile marker 40-44. Some pretty good reports on pompano coming out of the Sailfish Flats in Stuart. Bright colored Doc’s Goofy Jigs (3/8oz Orange, Pink, Char) will be the best bet for the pompano up that way. SURF/PIER- Pompano reports were hit or miss this week. Definitely wasn’t as good on the pompano this week as last week. Spanish Mackerel remain scattered up and down the beach in pretty good numbers. A small diamond jig or flashy style spoon is a solid choice for the Macs. The Spanish Mackerel have filled into Peck’s Lake in good numbers over the past week. The Juno Beach Pier has had a pretty good week. Spanish Mackerel have been biting good, a fair number of bluefish mixed in, a scattering of pompano, and a good number of croakers and whiting as well. Conditions don’t look great for the weekend, but if the water doesn’t end up too muddy the fish could bite pretty good. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...North northeast winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 7 to 9 feet with occasional seas to 11 feet. Period 9 seconds. North northeast swell 3 feet in the afternoon. SATURDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 4 to 6 feet with occasional seas to 8 feet. North northeast swell 3 feet. SUNDAY...South winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish action was a bit slower this week, and the forecast at the time of writing doesn't look like it will improve that much. Will no doubt be some sailfish around, but most likely not a big number weekend (Although...who really knows with the way this sailfish season has went!) Dolphin fishing remains fair to good in 200-350' of water. Trolling ballyhoo, bonita strips and squid should all work for the dolphin. Blackfin tuna remain mixed in with the dolphin as well. Kingfish, including some big smokers, have been scattered from Lost Tree to the Juno Beach Pier; mainly along the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing has been pretty solid the past week, especially up to the north. The Loran Tower has been producing some nice mutton snapper catches. Yellowtail snapper around in good numbers as well. A few cobia reports still coming in from the bottom as well. Sardines remain the top bait choice.
INSHORE- Getting closer to snook season...time to go do some scout work. Snook fishing should improve with warming temps. The shrimp jig bite has been very good at night around the bridges. During the day the snook are laid up along seawalls with dark mud bottoms. Wintertime inshore action remains pretty solid right now overall. A good number of sheepshead around, along with some black drum. The Munyon Island and Hobe Sound Flats have both had a few spotted seatrout and the occasional redfish. A gold spoon or some live shrimp is a solid choice for them. A few pompano reports inshore, but no good numbers really to speak of. SURF/PIER- This week saw some good pompano catches along the beach in Juno/Jupiter. The trick has been finding the right water, and try to fish the last of the incoming/first of the outgoing tide for best luck. Sandfleas, clams, and FishBites will all be good bait choices for the pompano. Spanish Mackerel action has also been very good this week. A small flashy jig (with some weight to it is a great choice from the beach) and a crappie jig is the best bet when fishing from the Pier. A scattering of bluefish around, but best action on them remains up to the north. Looks like it should be a great weekend to me surf fishing...go give them a shot! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Southwest winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SATURDAY...North northwest winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUNDAY...East southeast winds around 10 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Quite a range of weather offshore this week, and the fishing varied pretty widely as well with the weather. When the wind has had some north in it the sailfish have been biting fairly well. Live goggle eyes under the kite in 150-250' of water from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet is a pretty good bet to get a chance at the sailfish. Decent number of dolphin mixed in with the sails over the past week as well. Kingfish remain scattered along the 120' ledge in pretty good numbers. When conditions lined up right this week the bottom fishing has been very good. A handful of cobia have been caught in 90-100' of water, with threadfins and sardines being top bait choices. Snapper fishing has also been very good this week. A good number of mutton snapper and yellowtail snappers biting well!
INSHORE- This week saw fairly good action on the inshore side of things. Sheepshead have been around in good numbers, along with a few black drum. Live shrimp will be a solid bait choice for both of them. Try fishing the shrimp on a small troll rite style jighead for best luck. A handful of trout moving around the Munyon Island flats this week. Catch and release snook fishing remains pretty good. A few reports of some Pompano pushing around inshore, along with a few bluefish. SURF/PIER- Some decent surf fishing this week. Spanish Mackerel action remains pretty solid up and down the beach. Bluefish action improved north of Jupiter Inlet this week. Silver spoons, GT Ice Creams, and cut bait all being good choices for the blues. Pompano action was a bit hit or miss this week. A few decent catches, but it sounds like the best pompano action remains up to the north. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Along the coast, west northwest winds around 5 knots becoming southwest in the afternoon. In the Gulf Stream, west northwest winds 5 to 10 knots becoming southwest 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon. Seas around 2 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers. SATURDAY...West northwest winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots along the coast to west northwest 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas around 2 feet along the coast and 2 to 4 feet with occasional to 5 feet in the Gulf Stream. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUNDAY...West northwest winds 5 to 10 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish are attracting the most attention offshore these days, and the conditions look like they could bite pretty good this weekend. The past week has had a fair to good sailfish bite with a few boats getting five plus chances. Live goggle eyes and blue runners under the kite are the best bet for the sails, and will also get the attention of any big passing dolphin or wahoo as well. Best depth for the sailfish has bounced around between 150-225' for the most part, depending on water conditions. Haven't got a lock on the best area as of late, but the Juno Beach Pier to just north of Jupiter Inlet is always a safe area to start. Fair number of kings along the edge, along with a stray wahoo and cobia as well. Nice little scattering of dolphin over the past week. Bottom fishing was fair this week. Heard a handful of good mutton reports, along with good numbers of yellowtail snapper.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been fair this week, though passing cold front this weekend will probably slow it down. The shrimp jig has been the ticket around the bridges as of late. Live mullet along seawalls during the day is the best bet for the snook. Sheepshead and Black Drum have been biting well in the ICW. The cold front this weekend could help get a few more pompano moving around inshore. SURF/PIER- Bit of a tough week again surf fishing wise. A few more pompano around this week, especially north of Jupiter Inlet. Bluefish action was also a little bit better this week. Spanish Mackerel have been scattered along the beach in fair numbers. Definitely a increase in the number of sharks around as well this week. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...West winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots along the coast to west 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet. Period 4 seconds. North northeast swell 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning. Chance of showers through the day. SATURDAY...Northwest winds 10 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet. Period 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUNDAY...North winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
