OFFSHORE: Dolphin fishing remained pretty good this week, with most catches coming in 500-750' of water. The usual dolphin trolling spread(Ballyhoo, squid, strips, etc) has been working, as has drifting and chumming/chunking with sardines. Most of the dolphin remain in the 2-8lb "flipper" kinda range, but sounds like a better number of gaffers were caught this week as well. Wahoo action slowed considerably this week, with only a few random ones being caught. Blackfin Tuna bite was good in 200-400' of water. Small daisy chains and trolling feathers remain a solid choice for the little football size blackfin. King bite slowed some more, but scattered fines are still biting along the 120' ledge on sardines. Bottom fishing reports have been a bit slim this week.
INSHORE: Snook season opens back up this weekend, and conditions look right for them to snap off. The Juno Beach Pier, Jupiter Inlet, and Loxhatchee River are all holding a decent number of snook right now. The first signs of mullet are starting to show, and the snook are responding best to mullet/mullet-like lures right now. A Yo-Zuri Pencil or Mag Darter is an especially good choice right now.. Look for the snook to be the most active at night and during low light periods of the day. Throw in good moving tide and your chances will improve some more. Beyond the snook fishing, other local inshore reports were very slim this week. SURF/PIER: Snook season opens Saturday morning and that will no doubt be one of the main things on peoples minds at the Pier and along the beach. Flair Hawk Jigs, Big Swimbaits, Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows, and Rapala X-Raps all all be solid lure choices for the snook. Spanish Mackerel action slowed this week, but a few are still being caught on the bobber rig. Pompano action has been surprisingly good for August. Shouldn't be long before full on mullet run sets in..and then with out! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. . SATURDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Dolphin reports offshore (600-1200' of water) remain very strong for late August. A majority of the dolphin are on the smaller side; with a few good gaffers thrown in the mix to keep you on your toes. Trolling ballyhoo, bonita strips and squid remains a solid bet for the dolphin; as does drifting and chumming around well formed weedlines and current rips. Blackfin Tuna have been biting good in 250-350' of water on small daisy chains and trolling feathers. Lower light conditions are ideal for the tuna, but a few can be caught throughout the day. Wahoo bite is picking up this week with the growing moon; and should be extremely good over the weekend. High speed trolling with lures early in the morning and late in the afternoon should produce a wahoo bite. If that doesn't work, try putting a split tail mullet or horse ballyhoo down deep. Black/Purple and Black/Red color combos will be ideal during lowlight periods, while Blue/White and Pink/White will be good during higher sun. Look for the wahoo to be in 120-300' of water during lower light, and out a little deeper when the sun is up higher. If your fishing closer to Jupiter or Palm Beach Inlet try and time the wahoo troll around the outgoing tide. Snapper reports were a little better this week, with some pretty good catches coming in.
INSHORE: Catch and release(next weekend you can invite one home for dinner) snook fishing remains the best inshore bet right now. The mullet run hasn't really reached us yet; but the first trickles of mullet are showing. Look for the snook to bite best at night around the bridges on an outgoing tide. Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlet are both still producing good numbers of snook as well. The Hobe Sound Flats continue to hold a surprising number of fish for this time of year. Good mixed bag action of snook, spotted seatrout, redfish, mangrove snapper, and a few others. Scattered reports of a few tarpon moving around further up the Loxahatchee River. SURF/PIER: Very good fishing along the beach for this time of year. Catch and release snook fishing remains very good, and should be very this weekend at night with the full moon. Spoolteks and 6" Tsunamis Swimbaits have been a great lure choice at night. During the day the action has been best around the glass minnow schools (Hobe Sound beach has been especially good). Tarpon and Spanish Mackerel have been the most abundant species around the minnows, but plenty of others are mixed in as well. Been a few kingfish caught at the Juno Beach Pier in the afternoon on large X-Raps. Good fishing overall, definitely worth going if you have a chance. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Southeast winds around 10 knots. Seas less than 2 feet. Period 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. SATURDAY...East southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. SUNDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Dolphin reports continue to come in halfway decent(for those willing to go find them). Most dolphin catches are coming outside of 500' of water; and the vast majority being outside of 1000'. No huge dolphin around, but a few that do require a gaff are being caught. Kingfish remain scattered up and down the line from south of Palm Beach Inlet to the Loran Tower. No wahoo reports to really speak of, but that bite should improve as the moon starts to get bigger. Decent number of sailfish around last week. Mixed reports on the bottom fishing. Bonita are still around in good numbers; but seem to be starting to taper off a bit.
INSHORE- Main game in town on the inshore side of things remains the catch and release snook fishing( just a couple weekends away from inviting a slot size fish or two home for dinner though). The snook have been most active at night around dock lights and bridges; or late in the afternoon along seawalls and boat docks with decent current. Flair hawk jigs, SpoolTek's, and Tsunami Swimbaits have all been good lure choices for snook around the bridges. Rapala X-Raps and Yo-Zuri 3DS minnows have been hot around the docklights. Been a few random redfish mixed in with the snook as well at night. No target-able numbers of reds; but more than a handful have been caught over the last week or two. A few resident tarpon around, and they seem to be getting a little more active with the first trickles of mullet coming through. The Hobe Sound Flats continue to produce a nice little mixed bag of fish early in the morning and then again late in the afternoon. SURF/PIER- The surf action was very good again this week. Hobe Sound beach was the best with large schools of glass minnows around. In eating the glass minnows were a good number of tarpon, snook, jacks, and Spanish Mackerel. The bobber rig with a clark spoon is a solid choice for action. The snook and tarpon are a little tricky; but a well presented Rapala X-Rap or unweighted jerkbait could get the bite. A decent number of sharks were hanging around the same area as well. Surprisingly, Hobe Sound has also had a decent little pompano bite going on. Jupiter Inlet saw a few days of similar glass minnow action with snook and a few tarpon around. Juno Beach Pier reports also improved drastically late in the week. Snook, bonita, mackerel, were all caught pretty good off the pier; and a few big tarpon cruised through as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning. SATURDAY...East southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then a chance of showers and thunderstorms. SUNDAY...Southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas less than 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Kind of another lackluster week of reports offshore. Dolphin fishing was good for some, ok for others, and downright poor for the rest. In standard dolphin fishing fashion it was a more a matter of right time right spot than anything; with scattered reports coming in from 300-1500' of water. Wahoo action was slower this week (not surprising), but a few were caught. Scattered kingfish in 1000-120' of water south of Lake Worth Inlet. Snapper fishing was fair this week, with the best reports coming from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet in 80-90' of water. Should be a great weekend to be offshore...go if you have the chance!
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains the main game in town right now. Rumors are swirling of some small scattered schools of mullet showing up inshore....which means it won't be long! No better time than the fall mullet run for some inshore fishing. The Home Sound Flats are holding a pretty decent amount of fish for summertime. Getting some reports of snook, occasional redfish, and even a trout or two up that way. Mangrove snapper action seemed a bit slower this week inshore. SURF/PIER- Catch and release snook fishing remains very good along the beach, at the Juno Beach Pier, and in the inlets. Hard to beat a live croaker or sandperch for bait during the day, while flair hawk jigs and SpoolTek swimbaits are doing the job at night. The Juno Beach Pier has had a few decent Spanish Mackerel days this week, and calm conditions could get them going again. Bait remains a bit slim at the pier, and that is largely what is not getting the Macs around in better numbers. A few decent mangrove snapper are being caught early in the morning at the Juno Beach Pier and at Jupiter Inlet as well. Sandperch and croakers are biting small pieces of shrimp well in the first trough. Surf conditions should be pretty nice this weekend, and the large amounts of seaweed from last weeks east winds are thinning out. NOAA MARINE WEATHER- FRIDAY...Northwest winds around 5 knots becoming east. Seas less than 2 feet. Period 8 seconds becoming 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters smooth. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. SATURDAY...South winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas less than 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then a chance of showers and thunderstorms. SUNDAY...South southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas less than 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Bit of a slower week for offshore reports. The wahoo bite tapered off from last week, with a handful still being caught. Dolphin fishing remains above average; but it' still a pretty good guessing game on where they will be. East winds this week could/should help push them in from offshore into some shallower water. Scattered sailfish around here and there north of Jupiter Inlet. Kingfish bite has tapered off for the most part. Mixed bottom reports this week. A little slow on reports this week; but conditions look pretty good for the fish to bite this weekend.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains the main game in town on the inshore side of things. The Loxahatchee River has started to produce a good number of snook, and Jupiter Inlet is holding strong as well. It's not mullet run time just yet; but a few little pods are trickling through and the snook are on them! Some big jacks as well mixed in with the snook. A few decent mangrove snapper reports continue to come in, especially at night. SURF/PIER- Catch and release snook fishing has been good along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier again this week. Lowlight periods of the day and high tides at night are the best bet for the snook. Spoolteks and large swimbaits have been working well for the snook; while croakers and sandperch are the top live bait choices. Still a few tarpon cruising along the beach, but the better numbers of tarpon are farther up the line now towards Vero and Sebastian. East winds this week pushed some pompano in along the beach. No huge numbers, but a few good reports of pompano did come rolling in. With continued east winds in the forecast for the weekend, it could be worth a try. Croakers and sandperch are biting well in the first trough on small pieces of fresh shrimp. NOAA MARINE WEATHER- FRIDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. SATURDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. SUNDAY...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
