OFFSHORE- Sailfish action remained fair this week for those spending the time offshore. Early this week saw a few more fish than the later part of the week; but this coming cool front should have them fired up for the weekend. Finding bait offshore has been the major key to seeing the most sails; so keep an eye out for flying fish and bait balls on the sounder. A few nice dolphin have been mixed in with the sailfish in the 150-300' depth range. Trolling a spread of ballyhoo, bonita strips, squid, and other small lures in the 200-300" range should raise some dolphin and maybe a small blackfin tuna. Some kingfish reported in the 100' range over the past week. A very good number of cobia around over the past week in 90-130' of water. Snapper fishing is still very good for January. Lost Tree to Jupiter Inlet, in 90-100' of water, seems to be holding a nice mixed bag of assorted snapper.
INSHORE- Snook season opens February 1st, and that will no doubt be the main game in town on the inshore fishing side of things. Fishing deeper bridges with good current flow is a good starting point for bagging a slot size snook. During the day look for snook to be hanging out on shallow flats with a dark bottom, or in areas that are getting a lot of sunshine. Live shrimp, or good shrimp imitations like the DOA Shrimp, and Shrimp Jigs are a great bait/lure choice for snook this time of year. Sheepshead action has also been very good inshore as of late. Surf/Pier- Surf fishing remains a bit off for the season, but a mixed bag of fish are being caught by those putting the time in. Bluefish, spanish mackerel, jacks, and spinner sharks are scattered up and down the beach. Tossing a large silver spoon or big popping plug is a good way to find them. Pompano action improved this week, with some catches coming both north and south of Jupiter Inlet. Sandfleas and clams remain the top bait choice for the pomps. The bluefish were around in better numbers this week, which is an encouraging sign. Spinner sharks are around in solid numbers. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 4 to 6 feet with occasional to 8 feet in the Gulf Stream. Period 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of light showers in the morning, then chance of light showers in the afternoon. SATURDAY...West southwest winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Light showers likely and chance of thunderstorms. SUNDAY...North winds 5 to 15 knots along the coast to north northwest 10 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 3 feet along the coast and 4 to 6 feet with occasional to 8 feet in the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading. Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish action remains pretty consistent from Lake Worth to Jupiter Inlet in 150-225' of water. Best bet locally remains live goggle eyes or blue runners under the kite, or trolling small naked ballyhoo as you head farther north. With some north wind in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, and slightly better ocean conditions than we have been seeing, could be a pretty solid weekend for the sailfish. Decent number of dolphin remain mixed in with the sails, as do a few cobia and occasional wahoo. KIngfish bite has slowed a bit, but still a fair number scattered up and down the 120' ledge. The drift boats have been reporting solid snapper catches, with some cobia and kings in the mix as well.
INSHORE- Sheepshead and a few black drum have been biting well around the bridges. Live fiddler crabs(If you can find them) and live shrimp are going to be the best bait choices for them. One more weekend of catch and release snook fishing. Best snook fishing remains at night around docklights and bridges. Live shrimp are a solid choice for the snook right now. Pretty good mixed bag action on the Hobe Sound/Jupiter Island Flats. Just a few scattered reports of some pompano in the Loxahatchee RIver over the past few days. SURF/PIER- Conditions are looking a little better for the upcoming weekend, which could hopefully lead to some of the better surf fishing we've seen this weekend. A few days of north wind will hopefully push a fair number of Mackerel, Bluefish, and Pompano down this way. Presently the water is a bit muddy, but as it clears up a bit the fishing should improve. It's also about time for blacktip season to really get rolling...we'll have to see if that happens! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...Southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet. Period 6 seconds. Northeast swell 3 feet in the morning. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers in the morning, then chance of showers. SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...North winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- This week has been all over the place on the weather side of things. Started rough as could be, started to calm down get a couple nice calm days, and then it blows back ups in a big way for the upcoming weekend. Offshore reports remain fair, with the expected winter time species hanging around. Sailfish action remains fair, with those putting in the time getting the bites. No real sustained north winds to push a bunch of fish through, but the resident sails are keeping things interesting. Dolphin are mixed in with the sailfish, including a decent number of good size fish. Look for the best action to be in 150-225' of water for the most part. Kingfish are scattered up and down the 120' ledge, with a few wahoo in the mix as well. Bottom reports were a bit slim this week.
INSHORE- Snook reports are staring to trickle in as anglers start to do a little scouting for snook season (Season opens 2/1). Look for the snook to be laid up around boat docks, dark mudflats, and mangroves; especially those areas close to deeper water. The bridges are still producing a fair number of snook at night, especially on outgoing tide. Live shrimp, shrimp jigs, DOA Shrimp, and smaller swimbaits are all good choices for the snook right now. Inshore action around the grassflats was a little quiet this week, but those spending some time out there have found a few fish. Jacks, ladyfish, and a few smaller trout have made up the bulk of the reports coming in. SURF/PIER- Not much to write about from the beach and pier this week, but hoping front pushing through does start to turn the page to some better action. Pompano reports remain very slim, with only a few fish around. Scattered Spanish Mackerel at the pier over the past few days, but not in very good numbers. No big numbers of bluefish, but has been a few scattered reports of them around. Do expect the blacktop and spinner sharks to be around anywhere you do find any of the above species. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East northeast winds 15 to 25 knots with gusts to around 30 knots. Along the coast, seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet building to 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet. In the Gulf Stream, seas 4 to 6 feet with occasional seas to 8 feet building to 7 to 9 feet with occasional seas to 11 feet. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. Chance of showers in the morning, then slight chance of showers. SATURDAY...Southeast winds 10 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots along the coast to east southeast 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 30 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 6 to 8 feet with occasional seas to 10 feet along the coast and 8 to 10 feet with occasional to 13 feet in the Gulf Stream. North northeast swell 3 to 5 feet. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. SUNDAY...South winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 4 to 6 feet with occasional seas to 8 feet. North northeast swell 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Slight chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Well...looks a bit breezy this weekend! Sailfish action has been pretty good for those willing to battle through the rough stuff. Sailfish bite has been pretty consistent from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter inlet in 150-250' of water. Live goggle eyes under the kite are a safe bet, as are free lined sardines if you can find them. Decent number of dolphin, including some pretty good size ones, mixed in with the sails. Kingfish, and the occasional wahoo, remain scattered up and down the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing reports have been a bit slow, largely in part to less than desirable conditions.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains pretty good inshore. Sheepshead and black drum are biting live shrimp around the bridges. Reports from McArthur State Park are starting to heat up. Fair number of snook, along with a few trout being caught in the park. A few jacks pushing around as well to keep things interesting. SURF/PIER- Strong east winds for the upcoming weekend will make fishing tough overall along the beach. A few pompano have been caught this week, especially north of Jupiter Inlet. Spanish Mackerel have been the main draw at the Juno Beach Pier. Gotcha Plugs, Flash Minnow Jigs, and Live Deception Flash Jigs have all been a good choice for the macs. Bluefish action remains unseasonably slow, but a few are around. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...East southeast winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around 30 knots. Seas 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet. Period 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. Slight chance of showers. SATURDAY...Southeast winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around 30 knots. Seas 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. Slight chance of showers. SUNDAY...Southeast winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots. Seas 4 to 6 feet with occasional seas to 8 feet. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. Slight chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish action has picked up over the past few days, with a good number of boats getting multiple chances. Best depth has been 150-250' of water, with sails scattered up and down the line from south of Palm Beach Inlet to north of Jupiter Inlet. The usual routine of kite fishing with goggle eyes and blue runners will be hard to beat. Mixed in with the sailfish have been a handful of good size dolphin. Kingfish remain scattered along the 120' ledge in decent numbers over the past week. A stray wahoo or two have been mixed in with the kingfish as well. Snapper fishing has been pretty good in 90-100' of water from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet.
INSHORE- The fishing inshore has been pretty good as of late, and should continue to improve. Wintertime sheepshead and drum are beginning to show up inshore. Live shrimp are always a solid bait choice for them, as are fiddler crabs if you can find them. Mixed in with the drum and sheepshead have been a few redfish. Catch and release snook fishing remains pretty solid inshore as well. The snook continue to bite the shrimp jig very good at night around the bridges. Hope Sound Flats are holding a nice mixed bag of species. The jacks, ladyfish, snook, trout, and pompano are all making a showing in the Marker 40 to 44 range. SURF/PIER- Spanish Mackerel action has really started to pop off at Peck's Lake over the past few days. Flash minnow jigs, Gotcha Plugs, and Clark Spoons should all do the trick on the Macs. Chumming with glass minnows also really helps fire up the Mackerel. The Juno Beach Pier has also been seeing a fair number of Mackerel, with small X-Raps and crappie jigs being the lures of choice. Pompano reports remain pretty good north of Jupiter Inlet, with Hobe Sound continuing to produce some good catches. Bluefish action remains a bit slow. Hopefully some coming January cold fronts help fire up the blues. Pretty good number of sharks along the beach currently. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...South winds 15 to 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SATURDAY...West northwest winds 15 to 20 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet along the coast and 3 to 5 feet with occasional to 6 feet in the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. SUNDAY...North winds 10 to 20 knots along the coast to north 15 to 20 knots in the Gulf Stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 6 to 8 feet with occasional to 10 feet in the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
