OFFSHORE: Great looking forecast for the upcoming holiday weekend; and luckily the fishing has been much better this week. The dolphin bite improved; with scattered catches coming both in shallow and also out deep. No way to know which path the dolphin are going to take, so don't be afraid to really cover some water while looking. Trolling a good assortment of baits (Go more with squid, bonita strips, and jet head style lures to cover water, and ballyhoo when your in good areas and want to slow it down a bit) is the key out deep, while drifting and chumming will be a good way to go in a little shallower, This is the time of year that dolphin lock onto floating debris so keep your eyes peeled for any floating stuff that may be attracting dolphin. Even if the surface is quiet, be sure to drop a jig or live bait down deep for big loner dolphin or wahoo. In towards the 120' ledge the blackfin tuna are still hanging around. A few wahoo are being caught on the backside of the moon, with low light periods being the best. Summertime sailfish are also hanging out on the deep side of the 120' ledge as well. The kingfish are scattered in 100-120' of water. Snapper fishing remained good this week, with good catches coming out of both Palm Beach and Jupiter Inlets when the water gets right. Look for the snapper to bite best in blue water and north current. Sardines and squid remain the top bait choices for the snapper.
INSHORE: Catch and release snook fishing remains good at night around the bridges. Look for the outgoing tide to produce the best, and don't shy away from the big baits. The snook are hungry and they will chase down a good size meal this time of year. Mangrove snapper action inshore has improved. The mangroves will also bite best at night, and the bridges again are e a good area to look for them. Live shrimp and small live pilchards are good mangrove snapper bait choices. A few big jacks cruising the Loxahatchee River and a few small tarpon hanging around dock lights in the Lake Worth Lagoon and ICW. SURF/PIER: The snook showed up really good along the beach this week, and have really fired off early in the morning. Small pilchards seem to be what they are chasing down, so small swimming plugs and soft plastics are a good way to go. The best action seems to be right as the sun comes up, and will continue for about a half an hour. The sand perch and a few croaker are biting in the first trough. Small pieces of shrimp is the way to go for them. Other surf action remains spotty at best. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...SOUTH WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 4 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY...MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON. SATURDAY...SOUTH SOUTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE MORNING. A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. SHOWERS LIKELY IN THE AFTERNOON. SUNDAY...SOUTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. MONDAY...SOUTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. SHOP UPDATES: Monday July 4th Hours 6AM-12PM...then family fun and fireworks!!! OFFSHORE: Nice looking forecast for the upcoming weekend. Fishing reports were slim this week, with the weather keeping the majority of people in early in the week. Light southeast and east winds should help blow some dolphin in from way offshore this weekend. No magic depth for the dolphin, so be prepared to look for them from 200' out to over a 1000'. The usual dolphin trolling spread or drifting and chumming should produce some bites. The wahoo bite was not super strong on the full moon, but a few were picked off. Less than ideal water conditions didn't help the wahoo bite, but don't be surprised if a few are caught this weekend on the backside of the moon. Kingfish and bonita are still hanging around the 120' ledge, as are the sharks. Snapper fishing remains good along the bottom, with a nice assortment of mutton, yellowtail, and mangrove snapper hanging around.
INSHORE: Catch and release snook fishing remains good around the bridges at night. Flair hawk jigs and big swim baits are good bait choices right now. Look for the outgoing tide to be the most productive. Reports of the mangrove snapper moving inshore are starting to ramp up. Best bet for the snapper is also going to be fishing at night Live shrimp and small live pilchards will make good baits for the snapper. Other inshore action is slow. For best luck definitely be sure to fish during low light periods of the day. SURF/PIER: Snook are the main game in town right now along the beach and pier. They will be feeding best early and late in the day. This is also the best time to get a chance at a tarpon cruising the beach. Croaker are biting small live sand fleas and small live shrimp in the first trough. Maybe a few big jacks cruising the beach as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 4 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...MAINLY IN THE MORNING. SATURDAY...EAST SOUTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 4 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MORNING. SUNDAY...EAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Seemed to be a bit of a hit or miss week of fishing offshore. A few dolphin reports slid in, mostly from outside of 800'. The usual dolphin fishing tricks should do the trick, with the hardest part of the equation being finding them right now. West winds don't exactly help the situation either. In closer to the 120' ledge the afternoon blackfin tuna bite continues to be ok. Live sardines and pilchards are the key for the afternoon tuna. The moon is right and the water look goods for the wahoo bite to fire off this weekend. High speed trolling will no doubt account for some wahoo, as will split-tail mullet and horse ballyhoo fished on a wireline. Look for the wahoo bite to happen in 100-300' of water during low light periods of the day. Kingfish action was spotty this week, but a few decent fish were picked at along the 120' ledge. Snapper fishing was fair this week, with a nice mixed bag of mutton, yellowtail and mangrove snapper being picked away at.
INSHORE: Not a lot to write about on the inshore side of things. Catch and release snook fishing remains good, especially for those putting the time in at night around the bridges. Flairhawk jigs and big swim baits are still getting plenty of play, as will bigger live baits fished along a shadow line. Those not wanting to fish at night will find some snook laid up along seawalls and boat docks, especially early in the morning. A few mangrove snapper reports starting to trickle in from local bridges. SURF/PIER: Summer time fishing is upon us for sure. Catch and release snook fishing will be the most consistent surf action for a while. Look for the snook to be most active early in the morning and again at dark. Swimming plugs, like Rapala X-Raps and Yo-Zuri's, are great plug choices right now. During higher sun periods scale back to smaller jigs and soft plastics for the best luck with the snook. Croaker are around in the first trough and willing to bite small pieces of fresh shrimp. The Juno Beach Pier has had some big jacks and scattered tarpon early each morning. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...WEST SOUTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET ALONG THE COAST AND 2 TO 4 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 5 FEET IN THE GULF STREAM. DOMINANT PERIOD 4 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON. SATURDAY...WEST WINDS AROUND 10 KNOTS ALONG THE COAST TO WEST 10 TO 15 KNOTS IN THE GULF STREAM. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE MORNING. A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. SHOWERS LIKELY IN THE AFTERNOON. SUNDAY...WEST SOUTHWEST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS BECOMING NORTHEAST IN THE AFTERNOON. ALONG THE COAST...SEAS LESS THAN 2 FEET BUILDING TO 2 TO 3 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. IN THE GULF STREAM... SEAS AROUND 2 FEET BUILDING TO 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. NORTH SWELL 3 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Tough weather week has kept reports to somewhat of a minimum; though the upcoming weekend forecast looks good. Dolphin reports have improved for those finding a break in the weather and sneaking offshore. Best reports on the dolphin have come from 600' and deeper. The usual dolphin attracting stuff is the ticket; weedlines, rips, color changes, floating debris, and large concentrations of bait are your best starting points. Most of the dolphin have been in the 5-10lb range, with a few twenty pounders still in the mix. Scattered reports of blackfin tuna still coming in, with 200-350' of water seeming to be the best depth for the tuna. Small daisy chains, trolling feathers, and trolling squid are good baits for the tuna. June full moon is coming...wahoo action should start to improve over the next coming weeks. Kingfish action improved along the edge this week. Early morning and late afternoon bite has been best on the kings. Throat hooked live baits and deeper trolling baits are the way to go for the kings. (Watch the clip on the bottom of Captain Eric's website www.junobeachcharterfishing.com for some awesome kingfish tips and tricks) Snapper reports are still good, though it has been awfully tough to get them up past the sharks. Nice mixed bag of mutton, yellowtail, and mangrove snapper in the mix. Fresh sardines, bonita chunks, and squid are the bottom baits of choice.
INSHORE: Mangrove snapper are starting to show up inshore in better numbers. Look for the mangroves to be around docks with some deeper water, bridges, and marinas with good current. Small live pilchards and live shrimp are great choices for the mangroves. Catch and release snook fishing has been very good. Look for the snook around boat docks and seawalls early in the morning, and around the bridges at night. Big baits will get bites right now, so don't be afraid to chunk the big stuff. Sandperch action has been good around are bridges, with fresh pieces of cut shrimp being the baits of choice. SURF/PIER: Still a few die hard pompano anglers putting the time in on the beach catching a few pompano early each morning and late each afternoon. With calm clear water being the main condition keep the leader light and terminal tackle minimal to get the most bites. Fair number of croakers in the first trough. Catch and release snook action along the beach has been good, and should continue to improve as we move towards the full moon. Look for the best snook action to go down early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The snook can be seen all day long cruising the first trough, but in high light conditions they are tough to trick. A few fair tarpon reports trickling in. NOAAMARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...WEST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS BECOMING EAST SOUTHEAST IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 3 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. SATURDAY...WEST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS BECOMING SOUTH SOUTHEAST IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. NUMEROUS SHOWERS IN THE MORNING. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS .SATURDAY NIGHT...SOUTH SOUTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS BECOMING EAST NORTHEAST IN THE MORNING. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. SUNDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE: Kind of a hit or miss week of offshore fishing this week offshore. A few nice dolphin have been being caught way offshore, with 800-1000' of water seeming to be a good starting point. Trolling an assortment of bonita strips, squid, and ballyhoo is a good way to go. Look for rips, weed lines, working birds, and areas of flying fish and the dolphin will most likely not be far behind. The water even out to a 1000' has not looked great this week. If it starts to clean up, look for a good color change to form and the dolphin will most likely seek it out. Blackfin Tuna (mostly 5-10lbs) are biting good in 150-250' of water. Small daisy chains, small squid skirts, and small jethead lures are a good way to go for the blackfin. The kingfish bite along the 120' ledge has been hit or miss, but catch it on the right day and it can be pretty good. Snapper fishing remains fair, with some good reports of yellowtail and mutton snapper coming in. Sardines and squid remain the baits of choice for the snapper fishing.
INSHORE: Snook season has closed for harvest, but catch and release action continues to heat up. The bridges are holding a good number of snook. Especially the ones closer to inlets as the snook push on that way. The smaller non-spawning size snook are stacking up around dock lights in good numbers and are a lot of fun on light tackle. Other inshore action remains a bit spotty. Shouldn't be too long before the mangrove snapper start to show up inshore in a little better numbers. SURF/PIER: Kind of a tough week over all for surf fishing. A handful of late late season pompano are being caught, as well as some croaker in the first trough. Snook are showing up in a little better numbers along the beach, as are a few tarpon and some big jacks. The funky water along the beach has not helped much, and with any luck it'll begin to clear up soon. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...EAST SOUTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 3 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MORNING. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. SATURDAY...EAST SOUTHEAST WINDS AROUND 10 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON. SUNDAY...SOUTH SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. Thanks For Reading, Todd NOTE: Look for a quick Friday updated report this week from Captain Eric and a few other things. |
