OFFSHORE- Looks like we could see a very early season sailfish bite pop off this weekend. Conditions look right for them to come up and pop some kite baits off the surface for sure. Dolphin fishing slowed a bit this week, but still a fair number of them around. Best bet for the dolphin had been out very deep, but that could change over the weekend. Wahoo fishing was fair this week on the full moon. No huge numbers to speak of, but a decent little handful were caught this week. 120-200' seemed to be the best depth for the wahoo. Scattering of kingfish along the 120' ledge. Snapper fishing has been fair on the bottom.
INSHORE- Good snook action inshore this week. The finger mullet are starting to fill in inshore and the snook are taking full advantage! Tarpon, jacks, and monster ladyfish are also taking advantage of the massive ongoing buffet line. The finger mullet will tend to be most active very early in the morning or at night. They will move with the tide so use that to your advantage! The snook are also biting dry well around the bridges at night; and at the spillways when they are running. Swimbaits and Flair Hawk jigs remain your best bet for the snook. Sure sign summer is slipping away...the toadies have been biting. Still a fair number of mangrove snapper around inshore these days. SURF/PIER- Great action along the beach this week. The mullet run is in full swing, and the snook and tarpon are around in great numbers with them! As are the sharks, jacks, and a host of others. A little north wind this week should further help get the mullet up to the north of us still headed this way. A live mullet fished on the edge of the school or down under the school is a great way to separate your bait and get bites. Also, don't overlook a fresh dead mullet on the outside edges of the school. That can be an easy meal a big tarpon or snook just can't pass up. If your into lures more than bait try fishing a Yo-Zuri Mag Darter or Rapala X-Rap. Early morning and late afternoon should bring the most action. A few pompano reports are starting to trickle in. It's a little early for them, but don't be surprised to start hearing more and more about the pomps over the next few weeks. The Juno Beach Pier continues to produce a good snook bite, along with a nice number of Spanish Mackerel. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRIDAY...North northeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet.
