Weekend Fishing Outlook (8/5-8/7/2016)

Read Now

OFFSHORE:  Fishing has been good this week, with some nice mixed bag action floating around.  Dolphin bite was fair this week, with the best action coming off of good floating debris and large areas of bait.  The dolphin moved in a bit closer with a good east wind, and with any luck a nice south wind will help push some fish from down south up towards us.  A few wahoo were picked off this week, with the outgoing tide change being a good time to try for them.  Wahoo action will start to improve as we creep towards the August full moon.  Now is a good time to get the spread and setup dialed in....you may snag one, and when the full moon gets here your ready! Kingfish moved back into Jupiter in fair numbers.  Seems to be a good bite early on the kings, and another little bite later in the afternoon.  Live throat hooked sardines are the best bet for the kings.  Lots of bonita and sharks along the 120' ledge for those looking for good rod bending action.  Snapper fishing was good this week, with good reports coming out of both Palm Beach and Jupiter Inlets.  Hard to beat sardines (especially fresh ones) for snapper bait.

INSHORE:  Catch and release snook fishing remains good inshore.  The bridges are producing good snook action on the outgoing tide, and the Loxahatchee River has fish along seawalls early in the morning.  The snook, for the most part, are keyed in on big baits; so don't be afraid to chunk some big stuff.  If you can't keep em, might as well aim for the big ones.  Just be careful with the big spawning females...they are literally holding the future snook fishery inside them.  Mangrove snapper are hanging around area bridges at night.  Small live pilchards and live shrimp are good baits for the snapper.  Mixed reports on the sand perch in the usual inshore spots.

SURF/PIER:  Snook fishing remains the main game in town.  Early morning tends to be the best along the beach, while the pier has been producing throughout the day.  Good mixed big action at the Juno Beach Pier this week, with lots of different species around.  The tarpon are cruising through early, a few kings have been hooked on X-Raps, Cero Mackerel are around, and a sailfish was even caught today.  Yep...you read that right: Our good customer Dave picked off a nice sailfish early this morning.  A few mangrove snapper are hanging around the pilings, and seem to bite best early in the morning.  Should be a fishy weekend, give it a shot if you have  chance.
