OFFSHORE- Was a pretty good week offshore. The wahoo bite on the full moon has been really good, and will hopefully continue into the weekend. The seaweed is still annoying; but not drive you absolutely crazy bad. Planer fishing with bonita strips and split tail mullet has been producing a good number of wahoo bites. High-speed bite has also been really good as well for the wahoo. Dark color lures (purple/black and black/red) have been working especially well. For those looking for the quickest/easiest way to go for the wahoo...the Nomad DTX minnow continues to get bites! The DTX is a great easy alternative to planers and trolling sinkers. Scattered dolphin reports continue to come in from offshore, with 800-1200' seeming to be the best depth for them. In along the 120' ledge the bonita and kingfish are around in full force. The Kings are biting best late afternoon on into the evening. The current remains pretty strong right now, but those putting in time and dealing with it have been being rewarded with a very strong mutton snapper bite. Sardines remain the top bait choice for the muttons.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains strong inshore. Good topwater action early in the morning and late afternoon. A Yo-Zuri Topknock or Hydro Pencil are top lure choices. Mixed in with the snook will no doubt be a few bruiser jacks and the occasional tarpon. Target boat docks, seawalls, and mangrove points with current flow for the best results. The snook bite remains very good at night around the bridges as well. Flairhawks, swimbaits, and shrimp jigs are all good lure choices. Scattered mangrove snapper reports continue to roll in. Best action on the mangroves will be at night, but you can pick away at them during the day generally too. SURF/PIER- This week saw a definite increase in action along the beach: With nice weather in the forecast through the weekend, hopefully the pattern continues! Catch and release snook fishing remains very strong along the beach, in the inlets, and at the Juno Beach Pier right now. Along the beach and at the pier the snook fishing will remain best early in the morning and again late in the afternoon. In the inlets it's all about the tides. Location of the snook schools in the inlet will vary depending on the tide; but look for the last of the incoming and first of the outgoing to provide the most action. It's hard to beat a live croaker or sandperch for live bait, while a NLBN swimbait or Flairhawk style jig continues to produce well lure wise (especially in lowlight conditions). The Juno Beach Pier continues to produce a strong bite on blue runners, with a handful of mangrove snapper in the mix as well. Out at the end of the pier the bonita and occasional kingfish are still rolling through. A pretty fair number of tarpon reports along the beach this week. Overall pretty good fishing for this time of year; definitely worth getting out and taking a look around. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 1 to 2 ft. Period 3 seconds.
