OFFSHORE: Not quite the gangbuster week of fishing that the past month has seen, but still plenty of good action offshore. Dolphin fishing has returned to a more normal pick; but the chance to catch a handful of twenty pounders makes the trips out past the ledge worth it. Trolling ballyhoo, squid, and bonita strips are all great choices for the dolphin. Best depth on the dolphin has varied; but 200-500' remains a fairly consistent area to target. The same area continues to produce some very nice blacken tuna as well. Be it more knowledge, more fish, more fishermen, or more luck...the blacken action continues to improve on a nearly basis. Fish up to almost 30lbs are not such a rarity anymore, and going out and targeting tuna on our side of the gulf stream is becoming a very realistic possibility. Inside of the 120' ledge kingfish action remains good. A live throaty hooked sardine is hard to beat for attracting a bite from the kings. The bull sharks are around in big numbers as well; beef up the tackle and try and get those kingfish in fast. Snapper fishing has been very good in 80-100' of water from Palm Beach to Jupiter Inlet. Some very nice mutton snapper and big yellowtail snapper are around, and willing to chomp a sardine fished on the bottom. Still a few cobia mixed in on the bottom with the snapper. Light winds in the forecast, good fishing, and beautiful weather...tell us again why your not fishing this weekend?
INSHORE: Snook fishing remains the highlight on the inshore fishing side of things. The last of the big springtime mullet and a little more stable warming trend in the forecast should have the snook very fired up for the last few weeks of season. Look for the bridges closer to inlets to produce on outgoing tides. The snook will be feeding heavy over the next few weeks before the summer moons start to have them thinking about other things. Jacks are around in good numbers and will keep things interesting when the snook don't want to cooperate. A topwater lure (like a Zara Spook) fished along seawalls at sunrise will most likely not go unnoticed by one of the two! Other inshore action remains a little spotty. Have been hearing a few sheepshead sighting reports (the actual catching of them is another story), and some fair sand perch action. SURF/PIER: Pompano action is slowing a bit, but still very good overall. Fish early and late fore best action on the pompano, and don't be afraid to try a variety of baits. Sandfleas, clams, and Fishbites remain the top producing baits; but this time of year fresh cut shrimp can also be a great producer. Some big schools of jacks cruising the beach right now if your looking for some tackle busting fun. Also a few good pods of tarpon reported cruising along the beach. Snook continue to trickle in along the beach and around the pier; and that should only continue as we move into the next few weeks. The Juno Beach Pier has also been catching a few kingfish. Good fishing right now, especially during low light periods of the day. NOAA Marine Weather: FRIDAY...EAST NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 4 SECONDS.
