OFFSHORE- After getting pretty lucky on the offshore weather last weekend (especially for small boaters)...it looks unfortunately like we return to normally scheduled programming this weekend! With nicer conditions early in the week the fishing reports have been very good. It has definitely turned into springtime pattern offshore with a good mixed bag of species possible right now. Dolphin reports picked up this week in 250-500' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid have all been productive for the dolphin. It hasn't been huge numbers of dolphin; but the overall average size has been pretty good. Some really good sailfish days over the past week in 150-300' of water depending on conditions. Sunday (for those who can handle the rough stuff) looks like it could line up to be a hell of a day on the sails. In along the 120' ledge the kingfish bite has been very good; for both numbers and size. The kings are not schooled super tightly, instead the bite has been pretty solid up and down the line. Banded rudder fish have started to show up in solid numbers. They aren't boiling the top of the water yet, but they are here solid. With the rudder fish showing up the cobia reports have improved a bit, should open up on the cobia at pretty much any point. Snapper fishing has been very good as well; with good numbers and size on the muttons this week.
INSHORE- Snook fishing slowed down a bit this week, but still remains decent overall. During the day mullet fished along seawalls in the Loxahatchee has been the best bet for the snook. Docks and seawalls with some current flow and close to some deeper water will be the prime spots for the snook. A topwater plug fished in the same areas early in the morning and late in the afternoon will also work for the snook. Mixed in with the snook have been a few big jacks, and still a few late season big bluefish. Both of which will jump on a noisy topwater plug. It doesn't always make it the easiest to fish in, but some good wind this weekend will likely fire the fishing up inshore. Still a few pompano reports coming off of the Sailfish Flats in Stuart, though it does sound like that is slowing down a bit. Other inshore action remains a bit slow. SURF/PIER- Pompano reports were a bit better this week, both on the Juno Beach Pier and along the beach. A few pomps coming on the Goofy Jig; but the better bite has been on bait, with sand fleas being the top bait choice. The Juno Beach Pier has continued to produce a few Spanish Mackerel as well. White crappie jigs and small Rapala X-Raps have been the top lure choices for the Macs. A few schools of jacks have cruised through this week. Still also a few scattered bluefish around. It hasn't been big numbers of blues, but the ones that have cruised through (Mostly solo or very small packs) have been full grown ones. A spoon or diamond jig is a good way to go for both the jacks and bluefish. Gonna need something heavy to deal with the wind this weekend.
