OFFSHORE- Well...it looks like somebody still has the wind switch flipped "on" for the weekend. Strong east winds in the forecast will most likely make for a decent dolphin and sailfish bite, but also less than ideal conditions to fish in. Sailfish action remained fair this week, with most boats putting the time in and baits in the water getting a couple chances. The sails were caught out of both Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlets in 90-200' of water. Finding good schools of bait remains the key to finding decent numbers of sailfish. MIxed in with the sails have been a decent number of dolphin, including some nice size gaffers. Livebaits under the kites or trolling small naked ballyhoo is a good bet for raising a sailfish or dolphin right now. Kingfish action has remained very good this week. The king bite is shallow early in the morning (60' of water off the Juno Beach PIer has been the spot...), and then pushes out to the 120' ledge as the day goes on. Drifting sardines on a knocker rig is a great way to catch the kingfish right now. Bottom fishing remains good for this time of year, and the kingfish schools will no doubt draw some nice muttons around. Also mixed in with the kingfish have been some nice cobia.
INSHORE- The flats around Munyan Island and MacArthur State Park produced a few snook and pompano this week, along with other assorted species. LIve shrimp(which have been tough to come by) under a popping cork remains a great tactic for catching a nice mixed bag. Pompano can also be caught on a light goofy jig or Vudu shrimp. The snook are laying up around dark bottom to soak up some warmth, but generally won't pass up an easy meal. A nicely placed shrimp lure (or a fly) rarely goes unnoticed by a snook soaking up some sun. The Loxahatchee River is also holding fair numbers of Snook and a few Pompano. Not much to report (at least that we've heard about) from the Hobe Sound Flats. Snook fishing around the bridges remains pretty good at night. Shrimp Jigs and soft plastic shrimp tails (like the DDX Obese Shrimp) are a good choice. SURF/PIER- Surf and pier action remained steady this week. Bluefish continued to bite well early in the morning and late in the afternoon on silver spoons and cut mullet. Pompano action remains very good north of Jupiter Inlet, and fair to the south. Anglers spending time on the beach with sandfleas, clams, and fishbites in the water are getting some pompano bites for sure. Scattered schools of Spanish Mackerel have been moving around the Juno Beach PIer, and have been fairly willing to grab a gotcha plug. Lots of spinner sharks around right now. A nice fresh chunk of bait will usually not go unnoticed by a hungry shark for long. SHOP UPDATE- New product line should be in tomorrow(Friday 2/27), will post when it hits the door. Pompano fishing was also very good for us, when we could get the silly bonefish to leave us alone...not a bad problem to have. I think we ended up catching 17 bonefish, and a very nice catch of pompano for a couple days. Lots of good stuff going on right now fishing wise! Thanks, Capt.
