Weekend Fishing Outlook (1/22-1/24/16)

1/21/2016

OFFSHORE: Not an ideal weather forecast for a trip offshore this weekend.  Those who have made it out this week have been finding a fair number of sailfish with a few dolphin mixed in.  Livebaits under the kite remain the top choice for the sails, but trolling small naked ballyhoo will also raise a sailfish or two.  Scattered kingfish along the 120' ledge are still biting sardines on a knocker rig or live goggle eyes and blue runners fished down deep.  Bottom fishing reports were a little slow this week.  About time for some cobia to start filling in along the bottom.

INSHORE:  Fishing has improved inshore, with the grass flats starting to hold the usual "winter" species.  Ladyfish, jacks, and the occasional pompano are biting pretty well along the Hobe Sound Flats.  A Doc's Goofy Jig bounced along the bottom in 3-6' of water should produce a good amount of bites right now.  The Munyan Island/MaCarthur State Park Flats have been holding a few spotted seatrout and plenty of jacks.  Snook fishing slowed a little this week with the cooler weather.  Look for the snook to be laid up along seawalls and dark mud bottoms during the day.  At night look for the bridges to produce a few snook bites on the outgoing tide.

SURF/PIER:  Conditions in general made fishing from the surf tough most of the week, and the conditions may or may not improve from the beach over the weekend.  With that said; fishing from the pier and jetty was very good this week.  The Jupiter Inlet has been on fire with lots of bluefish and jacks.  A diamond jig or big silver spoon is a great choice at the inlet right now.  A few stray redfish have been moving through the inlet over the past few days.  Good numbers of jacks and bluefish around the pier.  Lots of sharks around along the beach right now.  A fresh chunk of bait is not going unnoticed for long by a passing hungry shark.  Pompano action was fair this week, with more fish starting to show in our area.

NOAA Marine Forecast:
FRIDAY...SOUTH SOUTHEAST WINDS 20 TO 25 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO AROUND GALE FORCE. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 6 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 5 SECONDS. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SHOWERS AND A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS.
SATURDAY...WEST WINDS 25 TO 30 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 KNOTS. SEAS 6 TO 8 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 10 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS ROUGH IN EXPOSED AREAS. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
SUNDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS TO 9 FEET. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP.

Good Luck This Weekend

Todd
