OFFSHORE- The weather over the past week has kept the offshore reports to a minimum. Those who have managed to sneak out, and it has been a very few have found a few dolphin and some sailfish. Conditions are stacking up for what looks like could be a good dolphin bite. Trolling ballyhoo or flying some small blue runners or goggle eyes under the kite should provide shots at some nice dolphin. Mixed in will no doubt be a few sailfish. Keeping baits in that zone this time of year though can produce all kinds of random bites. A big kingfish, dolphin, wahoo, and even a yellowfin tuna(our friends on the Goin Raptor had a nice yellowfin last Saturday during the Dust em' off Sailfish Tournament. It came up missing part of its tail; but weighed 61lbs. Impressive catch on 20lb test!) are all possible this time of year along the edge. Bottom fishing reports have been on the slow side, all due to the weather.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains good at night around the bridges. The last trickles of mullet and beginning of shrimp flowing through have them a little confused on what they really want to eat. One night is mullet, the next shrimp; so don't be afraid to try both. Flair Hawk style snook jigs, big swim baits, and swimming plugs will still provide the best chance at bagging a slot size snook. Less than a month left of season so get after them while you can! The flats around Munyon Island and Hobe Sound are starting to come back to life, and should improve as we start to get some passing cold fronts. As of now the jacks and ladyfish are showing up in fair numbers, the other wintertime species shouldn't be too far behind. SURF/PIER- Bluefish action has been good on the Juno Beach Pier this week, especially early in the morning and then again later in the afternoon. Silver spoon, diamond jigs, popping plugs, and cut bait will all catch the bluefish right now. Pompano action improved with some good catches early in the week. Sandfleas, clams, and Fishbites remain the baits of choice for the pompano. The blacktop and spinner sharks are showing up in good numbers along the beach right now. Lots of fun to catch these sharks on light tackle. Still hearing of a handful of snook art the pier as well. Should be some good fishing this weekend, go if you have the chance!
