OFFSHORE: Sailfish action has been good, and conditions look good for them to bite through the weekend. The sailfish seem to be stretched up and down the line, with a fair amount of fish from the Juno Beach Fishing Pier up to a little north of the Loran Tower. Live goggle eyes have been the bait of choice for the kites, while thread fins are working well on the flatlines. Key to the sailfish has been finding areas with good water and some decent tide. No current typically means no sailfish. Mixed in with the sailfish have been a fair number of dolphin, some being pretty good size. The same live baits will work for the dolphin, as will trolling small naked ballyhoo. A handful of kingfish and cobia in on top of the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing remains pretty good for snapper. Remember grouper season is closed now.
INSHORE: The cooler weather has sparked a little life into the Hole Sound and Munyon Island flats. Ladyfish, jacks, and any occasional pom[pano and spotted seatrout have shown up. Live shrimp under a popping cork, or small jig tipped with fresh shrimp is a good bet right now. Sheepshead and black drum are hanging around area bridges, and are best targeted with fresh shrimp. Catch and release snook fishing has been fair. SURF/PIER: The big news this week has been a return (FINALLY!!!) of some good looking water. With the good water came a nice solid push of pompano. Pompano action on Wednesday was really really good on the Juno Beach Pier and down to the south. Sandfleas, clams, and fishbites have been the bait of choice for the pompano. Bluefish also showed up in good numbers this week, and are very willing to bite silver spoons, noisy topwater plugs, and cut bait. Good scattering of spanish mackerel around as well.
