OFFSHORE- Most boats fishing the past week have found fishing to be on the tough side. A few boats have been releasing some sails and catching a few dolphin; but in general fishing has been tough. Look for things to improve this weekend with a mild front passing through. Sailfish will like the north winds in there forecast, as will the dolphin. Flying a kite from 150-300' of water out off Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlet with some goggle eyes or blue runners underneath should not go unnoticed by passing sails or dolphin. In along the 120' ledge some kingfish and stray wahoo have been caught. Drifting the ledge with a sardine on a knocker rig is a good bet to get some king bites. Snapper fishing has been day to day, with a few nice muttons being caught over the past week.
INSHORE- Inshore fishing should also improve with the passing front. The Hobe Sound Flats have begun to show some signs of life, with jacks and ladyfish around to keep the rods bent. Drifting live shrimp or tossing a shrimp tipped jig is a good bet for mixed bag action. Also in the mix should be a few snook, spotted seatrout, sheepshead, and mangrove snapper. Live shrimp will be a good bet for all the above species. Catch and release snook fishing remains good around the bridges at night. Sandperch and croakers have been being caught around area bridges in fair numbers on small pieces of cut shrimp. SURF/PIER- Croaker and whiting have provided the bulk of the surf and pier action this week. Small pieces of cut shrimp is the bait of choice to tempt bites out of the tasty croaker and whiting. A few pompano have been caught, but in general pompano action is slow. Those determined to find a pomp will have the best luck on sand fleas or clams. Bluefish action remains fair during low light periods of the day using cut bait. Shark fishing has been very good along the beach. A fresh chunk of bait will not go unnoticed by hungry sharks for long! NOAA MARINE FORECAST: FRIDAY...SOUTH WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 4 SECONDS.
