Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Outlook (5/26-5/29/2017)

5/25/2017

OFFSHORE:   Dolphin fishing remains good right now, though it is starting to move a little deeper.  Best bet on the dolphin seems to be in 300-500' of water; with some fish coming shallower and deeper than that as well.  The blackfin tuna, including some real nice ones, are biting in 200-300' of water.  Small trolling feathers are a good lure choice for the smaller tunas, while live sardines late in the afternoon are a great choice for the bigger blackfin.  Inside the 120' ledge the kingfish bite has been very good.  Nice mix of both quantity and quality on the kings.  Live sardines remain the bait of choice for the kings.  Mixed in with the kings should be a few wahoo and cobra as well.  Snapper fishing seemed to fire up pretty good this week.  Some nice yellowtail snapper reports and plenty of muttons around.  Good fishing over the past week and a good forecast this weekend...no reason not to go!!!

INSHORE:  Last weekend of snook season coming up!  The snook fishing has been very good with fish around the bridges, ICW, and in the river.  The snook are hungry right now, and willing to bite bigger baits.  Good jig bite going on for those into fishing flair hawks.  The swimbait bite also remains good.  Look for outgoing tide to be the ticket around the bridges.  The snook in the inlets are biting on both tides, but outgoing tide and dirtier water tend to make them a little easier to fool.  Mangrove snapper are starting to show up around the bridges.  Small live pilchards and live shrimp are good bait choices for the snapper.  Scattered sheepshead and sand perch around inshore right now.

SURF/PIER:  Pompano action slowed again this week, but still hasn't shut off.  The late afternoon bite has gotten better for the pompano, with sand fleas and fishbones remaining the hot bait choices.  Hasn't been a super hot spot; but it does seem like the bite is a little better north of Jupiter Inlet for the pompano.  Snook fishing is very good right now at the Juno Beach Pier.  Dead sardines has been a hot bait; but that is changing a little with warming water and more live bait showing up.  If the weather forecast holds and it stays very calm and clear live shrimp could turn into a good bait choice for the shrimp.  Spanish mackerel schools have been in and out around the pier.  Plenty of snook starting to show up in Jupiter Inlet right now.  Last weekend to invite one home for dinner before the season closes...go get one!
