Weekend FIshing Outlook (12/27-12/29/24)

Read Now

OFFSHORE-  Sailfish action has been good offshore over the past week. Bigger live baits (Goggle Eyes and Blue Runners) under the kite, and smaller live baits (Threads, Pilchards, or Sardines) on the flatlines is standard operating procedure for the sails.  150-250' will be the best depth range for the sailfish; with a mix of dolphin, kingfish, blackfin tuna, and occasional wahoo in the mix as well.  Trolling small ballyhoo will also work well.  Good north current, blue/green color changes, large areas or bait, and current rips are all good signs to look for.  Dolphin bite has been good as well this week.  Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid is a good choice for the dolphin.  Don't expect large schools of dolphin, but the average size overall has been pretty good.  Bottom fishing reports have been a bit on the slower side, with a handful of snapper reports coming in.

INSHORE-  The usual wintertime species have started to fill in well inshore.  Lots of jacks (mostly on the smaller side) have filled into the Loxahatchee River and ICW.  Live shrimp, small bucktail jigs, and small swimming plugs are a great way to go for them.  A good number of ladyfish mixed in with the jacks.  The pompano have been mixed in as well with the jacks and ladyfish.  3/8oz Doc's Goofy Jigs are a great way to target all of them.  Green, pink, and orange jigs have all been working well.  Catch and release snook fishing slowed a bit this week, but still decent for those putting the time in on them.  The snook at night around the bridges have definitely started to key in heavily on live shrimp.  The top of the outgoing tide has been the best bet for them.

SURF/PIER-  Nice mixed bag action along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week.  Pompano bite is not on fire; but those putting in some time have been picking away at them.  On the beach the pomps are biting sandfleas and FishBites.  At the Juno Beach Pier it has been a mixture of bait and Doc's Goofy Jigs producing pompano bites.  Strong Spanish Mackerel bite at the Juno Beach Pier; with white crappie jigs being the top lure choice.  A mixture of jacks, blue runners, and ladyfish around as well.  Croakers and whiting action has been decent in the first trough.  Small pieces of fresh shrimp will be the best bait for them.  No bluefish reports to speak of.  Blacktip sharks have been around in good numbers.
