Weekend Fishing Outlook (1/2-1/4/26)

OFFSHORE-  Reports have been a bit slow this week offshore.  Despite the decent cold front, sailfish action never really went off.  The general consensus was most boats putting the kites up saw a fish or two, with only a few boats getting more than 4 or 5 chances.  A scattering of dolphin in 250-400' of water, but no big numbers.  The wahoo have shown up a little better around the moon.  Most of the wahoo bites have been coming on live baits intended for sailfish (Which are often short lived on fluorocarbon leader).  A few wahoo bites on the planer for those really putting the time in.  The wahoo bite has been better down south.  Bottom fishing remains fair in 90-100' of water.  Been a fairly good mix of snapper, grunts, and porgies around.  Sardines and squid remain the bait of choice on the bottom.

INSHORE-  Inshore action remains a bit tough.  Catch and release snow fishing has been on the slower side with the cooler weather.  Sheepshead action has improved inshore, with a few black drum mixed in as well.  Live shrimp is a top bait choice for the sheepshead and drum.  The Hobe Sound flats have started to hold a little more life with the cooler weather.  A mixture of croaker, ladyfish, sheepshead, and other species have been willing to bite shrimp on a light jighead.  The jacks have been roaming Lake Worth Inlet in some decent size schools.

SURF/PIER-  Fishing remains a bit tough along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week.  A very small scattering of pompano around, but no big numbers to speak of.  The Spanish Mackerel bite slowed as well this week.  A few scattered bluefish around, with the best luck on them coming on chunks of mullet or sardines.  Croaker and whiting continue to bite very well in the first trough.  Small pieces of shrimp are the way to go for the croaker and whiting.
