OFFSHORE- Fishing was a bit slower offshore this week. Sailfish numbers fell off, with two or three releases being a good day this week. A handful of dolphin mixed in with the sailfish, but those numbers fell off as well. 120-250' remains a good depth to look for the sailfish. Dolphin seem to be biting best in 200-350' of water. East wind in the forecast will likely help push some dolphin in a little closer this weekend. The moon is getting bigger which could help trigger a wahoo bite. Bottom fishing was fair this week, with a handful of nice mutton snapper being caught.
INSHORE- Warming weather this week has the snook biting better. The usual wintertime areas (docks with dark mud bottoms and close proximity to deeper water) will be holding snook during the day. At night the snook have been around bridges and docklights. Live shrimp and shrimp jigs are still working great for the snook; but the bigger baits are also coming into play a little more these days. The top of the outgoing tide has been the best bet for the snook. A handful of pompano pushed inshore this week. The ICW and Loxahatchee River both produced a few pomps. Bright colored Doc's Goofy Jigs have been working well for the pompano. Plenty of ladyfish and small jacks mixed in with the pompano. SURF/PIER- Slow fishing this week along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. A few scattered pompano around, but limits few and far between for the most part. Better pompano reports seemed to come from up north (Hobe Sound and Hutchison Island). Sandfleas and FishBites have been the bait of choice for the pomps. Spanish Mackerel remain scattered up and down the beach, with Peck's Lake holding a decent amount of fish this week. No bluefish reports to speak of this week. Croakers and whiting have been biting decently in the first trough. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 7 seconds.
