OFFSHORE- A bit slower again this week offshore report wise (Not uncommon this time of year). Those making it out did find a few dolphin in 300-500' of water. The wahoo have still been around, and the new moon should keep them biting through the weekend. Best depth for the wahoo will remain 150-300', with some fish being caught both to the north and south. Typically speaking as we move later into the season the wahoo always gets better to the south. No change on the wahoo tactics; all the normal methods are gong to do the trick. Did hear an uptick in kingfish reports this week along the 120' ledge, with a few nicer kings in the mix as well. Best bite on the kingfish will be early morning and then again late in the afternoon. Bottom fishing reports did pick up a bit this week. A handful of snapper reports coming in; though nothing crazy red hot. Sardines and squid remain the bait of choice for bottom fishing.
INSHORE- Inshore fishing remains a bit tough this week, though it continues to show signs of opening up soon. Snook fishing has been fair, though the snook seem to be waiting for the mullet to show up just like everyone else. When a few mullet do come cruising through the snook have been responding well! Early morning. late afternoon, and especially at night remain the most productive times to target the snook. Try and time that with an outgoing tide for the best results. The masses of finger mullet can't be too far away. When the mullet show up the snook, tarpon, jacks, and even possible redfish will go crazy...just need those mullet to show up! Mangrove snapper fishing remains pretty good inshore. Best luck on the snapper will come at night, with small pilchards and live shrimp remains top bait choices. Snapper like a little moving water so try to fish a tide change if possible. SURF/PIER- The mullet run rumors are getting louder and louder this week. While the bulk of the fish still seem to be a decent ways up the coast (Melbourne seems to be where a large mass of the fish are), smaller pods are beginning to trickle through from Hobe Sound to Jupiter. Another weekend of SE wind is not going to get them moving towards us in a hurry; but the flip side is when they do show up (assuming the weather holds), the mullet will not just fly down the coast. For fishing the mullet run a live mullet fished on the outside edges or under the school is always a top choice. For lures a Yo-Zuri Mag Darter, Rapala X-Rap, or NLBN 8" Straight Tail are always solid choices. Since the mullet have not showed up in full force, we are still hanging onto some summertime bait. The pilchards are still on the beach and around the pier in good numbers. Snook fishing has ben fair at the pier, with the fish biting nicely on Wednesday with a small swell rolling through. A large number of blue runners and a small scattering of Spanish Mackerel have kept the pier busy as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft.
