OFFSHORE- Fishing offshore last weekend and the very first part of the week before the weather blew up remained very good. Dolphin reports remained strong, with a good number of fish being caught in 300-500' of water. Trolling smaller baits remains the best way to go for the dolphin. If the weather allows this weekend (It's a solid maybe at this point) it looks like the dolphin fishing could be very good again as well. Sailfish reports remain fair to good; and conditions this weekend do look really good. A little more of a temperature drop would really help, but that north wind and swell will likely have them up top surfing waves and ready to eat. Live goggle eyes or small blue runners under the kite will be the way to go for the sails. Wahoo reports were very good as well. Best depth on the wahoo has been 200-300', with fish seemingly scattered up and down the line. Split tail mullet and bonita strips with a Sea-Witch remain a great choice for the wahoo (They don't have to always be down though...John's fish pictured below smoked a ballyhoo on top). Snapper fishing reports were a bit slower, no doubt due to the weather. With limited pressure over the past week, expect the bottom fishing to fire off as the weather improves.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains very good inshore right now. Still a surprising number of mullet moving around, and the snook are taking advantage! With temps not falling too much yet the snook's metabolism is till up pretty good and the are still chasing down the bigger baits. As water temps come down they will begin to switch over to the smaller stuff. We likely only a few weeks away from shrimp jigs being a reoccurring theme in the reports. The Loxahatchee River has been holding the best number of snook during the day. At night the bridge bite has been best, especially on outgoing tide. Starting to see a few more sheepshead and small black drum showing up inshore. Live shrimp is the best way to go for them, and can be easily presented on a jighead. Deeper holes near boat docks and bridge pilings tend to be good spots to start when looking for them. SURF/PIER- Despite rough conditions and a lot of wind; the water continues to look very very good along the beach. It's a fishy looking blue color, and looks like we should have fish all over. Of course that 40mph+ wind blowing straight out of the east provides for a bit of a challenging cast (Morgan told me this morning..."If you could manage to get your popper out there...this weather would have the fish all riled up!" I'm inclined to believe she's right). Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, and some pompano have all been around this week. As the wind calms down a bit, look for the fishing to absolutely fire off along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. I know: I said that in last weeks report and the fishing fell out to almost nothing over the weekend; but it looks to good not to go off this weekend. For the Spanish Mackerel a crappie jig, sidewinder jig, Got-Cha lure, or small swimming plug should all be good choices. For the bluefish a bigger swimming plug, spoon, or diamond jig will all be good choices. For the pompano a bright colored Doc's Goofy Jig is the lure of choice. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...W winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Period 5 seconds. NE swell 4 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers. SAT...N winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. NE swell 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers and tstms. SUN...N NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. N NE swell 3 ft in the morning. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd On the Left: John had a great day last week, catching four wahoo from 200-240' of water. With swimming ballyhoo on the surface catching three of the four. On the Right: Pat with a nice wahoo caught on a split tail mullet paired with the new Gulfstream Lures "Zoom Witch" in Blue and White. OFFSHORE- It's by no means a perfect forecast offshore this weekend; but it's a lot better than what we have been dealing with (Notice I threw Monday in on the weather report...it actually waits till after the weekend to really blow up!). This week has seen nicer conditions and more boats have been making it out the inlet for sure. Good dolphin fishing this week; with both numbers and size being pretty good. Best depth has bounced around a bit, but 250-400' continues to produce well. Trolling bonita strips and squid has been producing; as has drifting productive areas and chumming and chunking. Sailfish action remains fair. No big numbers, but most boats with the kites up continue to get a few chances. A handful of cobia around this week, along with some nice tripletails (check the picture below, compliments of Jeff www.gofishjupiter.com, of a sick triple tail catch early in the week.) Bottom fishing reports remain good, with some good snapper catches continuing to come in. Sardines and squid remain the baits of choice on the bottom.
INSHORE- This week saw a little late season push of mullet come through and the fish were close behind; with snook and some big jacks providing most of the action. Best action will be early in the morning and then again late in the afternoon. Try to fish areas with a little less boat traffic for the best results. Live mullet fished along seawalls and under boat docks with current moving past shouldn't go unnoticed for long. Early morning the snook will also still jump all over a properly presented Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil or Topknock Pencil. The bridge snook bite at night also remains good. Starting to move into shrimp jig season; but flair hawks and swimbaits continue to get the job done. Othe inshore action is a bit slow; but won't be long before the winter sheepshead and black drum should start showing up. SURF/PIER- Really good fishing along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week; with a good mixture of multiple species around. Spanish Mackerel action has been really good. Most of the Macs are coming on lures; with white JYG Pro Crappie jigs, Got-Cha's, small spoons, and other assorted jigs working the best. The Spanish Mackerel will often bite throughout the day. but expect the best bite to happen early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Mixed in with the Spanish Mackerel will be a good number of bluefish. The same lures listed above will catch the blues; but for exciting vicious strikes nothing beats a noisy topwater popper. Plenty of jacks mixed in with the bluefish as well. Pompano action has been good this week, with good numbers of good size fish around. On the beach it will be sand fleas and FishBites for the pomps. The same baits will work on the Juno Beach Pier, but for hard hits and lots of fun try jigging for them with a bright colored Doc's Goofy Jig. And in good and/or bad news depending on how you look at it... With all the life around the sharks are also here in big numbers. Yes they are annoying when they eat your pompano; but man it's cool to watch them smash a topwater too! Overall good fishing this week...get after it if you can! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SAT AND SAT NIGHT...E winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUN AND SUN NIGHT...NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. MON...E NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Along the coast, seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. In the Gulf Stream, seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft building to 5 to 7 ft, occasionally to 9 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Looks like another blowout coming up this weekend. Minus a little weather window early in the week (Monday afternoon/Tuesday), the ocean hasn't really let anybody offshore. A few scattered dolphin for those that did make it out, along with a few scattered kingfish. Did see a couple nice cobia caught out of Jupiter. I'd love to tell you more...but well it's windy and that's all I have this week.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains good inshore. A fair number of snook being caught in the Loxahatchee River during the day. Early morning is best, but windy conditions will help to keep them biting a little better throughout the day. The snook also continue to bite around the bridges at night. A few big jacks in the mix as well. Other inshore action remains a bit slow. SURF/PIER- Looks like it maybe a little tough to fish from the beach this weekend, but the Juno Beach Pier remains a good option. This week has seen a nice mixed bag of action at the pier. Bluefish action remains good; with an assortment of lures and cut baits working for them. Spanish Mackerel are also around and biting white crappie jigs well. Pompano action also continues to improve, with bright colored Doc's Goofy Jigs being the lure of choice. The Juno Beach Pier also had a few snapper this week, along with a couple of redfish. Overall pretty good fishing...you just have to deal with the wind and a crowd! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NE winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts to around 35 kt. Seas 7 to 10 ft, occasionally to 13 ft. Period 8 seconds. NE swell 3 ft. Intracoastal waters very rough in exposed areas. A slight chance of showers in the morning, then a chance of showers in the afternoon. SAT...NE winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. Showers likely with a slight chance of tstms. SUN...NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- No reports from offshore this week to speak of, and not looking good going into the weekend (see below...YIKES!). A fair number of dolphin around last weekend before conditions deteriorated. Sailfish action also was pretty consistent. Snapper reports also remained strong before the wind set in. Probably not worth trying to push it offshore this weekend...plenty of nicer days to come before long!
INSHORE- Snook fishing reports remain good inshore. Windy conditions should have the snook fired up through the weekend. Look for the morning topwater bite to pop off back in the river, especially early in the morning. Ambush points, seawalls, and boat docks with some current flowing around them will be the ticket for finding the snook. A few little tarpon around, along with a few jacks. Still a fair scattering of finger mullet around, though not in huge numbers. Finding those small late season pods of finger mullet can lead to some really fast action. SURF/PIER- Conditions have been pretty terrible along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week; with strong winds, rough seas, and dirty water all but shutting the fishing down. At time of writing it looks like cleaner blue /green water is trying to push back in. As soon as the water cleans back up a bit, look for the fishing to fire back off. Early in the week, before conditions went south, the bluefish bite was absolutely on fire. The blues were chomping topwaters, spoons, and cut bait with reckless abandon along the beach and at the pier. Pompano, mostly small with a few keepers mixed in, bite was decent as well early in the week. Look for them to bite well when water conditions improve. Dirty water has largely pushed the Spanish Mackerel out; but look for them to show back up in good numbers when water conditions improve. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to around 30 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. SAT...Winds NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to around 30 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft building to 5 to 8 ft, occasionally to 10 ft. NE swell 3 ft. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. SUN...E NE winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. NE swell 3 ft in the morning. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. A slight chance of showers in the morning. A slight chance of tstms. A chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Some good dolphin fishing over the past week, with some good size fish around. Depth reports bounced around a bit, but 150-300' was fairly good this week. Trolling bonita strips and squid has been a solid way to go for the dolphin. Sailfish action has started to heat up; with most boats putting in some effort getting at least a few chances. Did hear of a few boats catching more than five...starting to get going and nice looking conditions for them going into the weekend. Snapper reports were very good this week, including some really nice mutton snapper. A few kingfish scattered along the 120' ledge.
INSHORE- Snook fishing reports remain good inshore. The Loxahatchee River has been hot, especially for the early morning topwater bite. Seawalls with some current flow are the best bet in the river. The snook are also biting well around the bridges at night. Flair haws are working well for the snook; but we are quickly approaching shrimp jig season. A few small tarpon still moving around inshore, but the numbers have fallen off with most off the mullet moving on. SURF/PIER- Pretty solid fishing along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week. The water didn't look great; but despite that pretty good amount of fish around. Bluefish, including some full grown ones, have been around in good numbers this week. Best action will be early morning and late afternoon; especially for the very entertaining topwater bite. The bluefish will also generally bite spoons, diamond jigs, and swimming plugs as the sun gets higher in the sky. The Juno Beach Pier has had a good number of Spanish Mackerel around. White crappie jigs are the lure of choice for the Macs; but small X-Raps and small flashy metal jigs will work well too. With all the bluefish and Spanish Macs around...expect a few big kingfish to be in the mix as well. Pompano reports have been fair this week. Most of the pomps have been on the small side; but a handful of keepers in the mix. The usual bait (sandfleas, clams, shrimp, Fishbites) are all working for the pompano. Nice looking conditions gong into the weekend, should be some pretty good fishing. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N NE winds 5 to 10 kt becoming NW. Seas 2 ft or less. Period 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers and tstms in the morning. SAT...NW winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters light chop. .SAT NIGHT...W NW winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUN...NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Slim reports from offshore this week thanks to a very nasty ocean. Last weekend saw some good action before the ocean really started to pick up. Dolphin reports remain solid, and conditions do look good going into the weekend for them to bite again. Depth continues to bounce around, and NW winds could push them offshore a bit. With that said; look for the dolphin to bite in 250-500' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid will be the baits of choice for the dolphin. Conditions do look good for the sailfish to bite going into the weekend. Bottom fishing remains very good. Nice mixed bag of mutton and yellowtail snapper around. Sardines remain the bait of choice on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains very good inshore. Still a fair push of mullet coming through, and the snook are keyed in on them. Mixed in with the snook should be a few tarpon and big jacks as well. The snook have been biting well around the bridge at night. Flair hawks and bigger swimbaits remain the top lure choices. The top of the outgoing tide remains the best bet, but with dirty water around they will bite on incoming as well. A few redfish around inshore: Hard to target the redfish, but if you're going to catch redfish in Palm Beach County; now is the time. SURF/PIER- Rough surf had the surf action slowed down for most of the week. Still a fair amount of mullet pushing through; but it has slowed way down. This weekend will likely be the last good push of mullet coming through. Still a good number of tarpon in the mullet schools along with some bruiser jacks. Best action will no doubt be first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. No pompano reports this week; conditions do look good going into the weekend for them to bite. Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel have started top show up in little better numbers. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SAT...NW winds 5 to 10 kt becoming N NE in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. SUN...N NW winds 5 to 10 kt becoming N in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd Photo from Capt Eric of Countyline Charters... OFFSHORE- Dolphin reports were good again this week. The pattern continues of smaller packs of fish, but the average size has been a little better. For the most parts the dolphin have been in pretty open water; so trolling and covering water has been the name of the game. Trolling lures (small jetheads) and baits (Squid and bonita strips) that let you cover some more water will be the best bet. Depth has bounced around from 500-800', but some east wind in the forecast could help push them in a little shallower. Backside of the full moon should also have the wahoo biting good this weekend. No reports yet to speak of yet on the wahoo, but they should be coming. Best depth for the wahoo will be in the 150-250' range. High speed trolling to cover water; or working productive areas with a planer and bonita strip will be the two best bets for the wahoo. Later in the weekend look like ideal early season sailfish conditions as well. Bottom fishing reports this week were good; with a pretty solid mixed bag of snapper and even a few grouper being caught by the drift boat crew. Sardines and squid remain the top two bottom fishing bait choices.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains very good inshore right now. Mullet schools are still around, but not in massive amounts. Smaller schools of mullet tend to be a little easier to fish; and often times lead to more action (If you think about it...would you rather pick a raffle ticket out of a bucket of 100 or 10,000?). Look for the mullet to be the most active and up on top early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and at night. Boat traffic and high sun tend to drive them down deep and make them harder to fish. When the fish are actively feeding in a mullet school try a topwater plug fished on the outside edges of the school for best luck. Another trick that can work well is a crazy different colored pug fished in the school. Yes "match the hatch" is typically the best plan when picking colors, but an oddball in the middle of a million other choices can sometimes be the ticket. It's mainly snook inshore with the mullet; but a fair number of tarpon and jacks will be around as well. Snook fishing at night around the bridges remains strong as well. SURF/PIER- Mullet pod reports were a bit slower this week; but still a good number of therm around. The tarpon are still hanging around them in good numbers; and have been willing to crush a topwater fished on the edge of the schools early in the morning. The Yo-Zuri Hydro and Topknock Pencil have been two top lure choices for the tarpon. Snook action slowed a bit around the mullet schools; but big jacks and shark have taken up the slack. Best bet on finding the mullet is to look early and late in the morning. If you can't find any pods along the beach, sometimes checking the inlets on outgoing tide can be a good way to find them. The Juno Beach Pier has been producing a lot of fish this week. Spanish mackerel have been around the pier in very good numbers. The bobber rig with a clark spoon or white crappie jig have been the top two lure choices. A few kingfish around the pier as well early in the morning and late in the afternoon. A swimming plug (Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri LC Minnow) is the best way to go for the kings. Some solid pompano reports coming in from the pier as well on Doc's Goofy Jigs. A lot of the pomps have been on the smaller side; but a decent number of keepers in the mix. Overall very good fishing; definitely worth giving it a shot if you have a chance. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Period 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers with a chance of tstms. SAT...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers with a chance of tstms. SUN...NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd Cool pic sent in from Davis Smith this week. Davis and his buddy pulled five of these little guys out of the surf. Always cool to see some bonefish come in from the surf on Juno Beach. A lot of times they are smaller like this...but a bigger one will sneak in from time to time to keep things exciting! OFFSHORE- Good dolphin reports for those making it out over the past week. The best depth has continued to bounce around, but 250-600' seems to be producing pretty consistent results. Most of the dolphin have been in open water or on current rips in small packs. Floating debris will hold them as well; but for the most part it will be smaller packs of fish and not large schools. Average size remains 3-6lbs for the most part, with a few solid gaffers in the mix as well. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips and squid is a great way to go for the dolphin. Still a pretty decent pick of sailfish around, and conditions do look good for them to bite this weekend. Wahoo reports continue to come in pretty good; with a big bonita strip fished behind a planer still being the top bait choice. Bottom fishing reports remain very good as well. Won't be the most ideal bottom fishing conditions this weekend, but those pushing through should find a good mixed bag of mutton and yellowtail snapper around.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains very good inshore right now. The Loxahatchee continues to hold a good number of snook, with fair action during the day and at night depending on how you target them. During the day (early morning, late afternoon, and overcast times will be best) look for the snook to be keyed in on mullet and ready to blast a topwater plug. Boat docks and seawalls that have good current flow and provide natural ambush points will be the best areas to target. Mullet schools up on top with fish busting through them will also be a dead giveaway to the snook's location. At night the snook will be largely around the bridges. Flair hawk jigs and topwater plugs continue to be the top two producing lure choices for the snook. In addition to the snook; mullet schools have also attracted some tarpon, jacks, and big ladyfish to move inshore. Fishing live mullet on the edge, or under a school is a good way to go for lots of action. SURF/PIER- A little hit or miss on the beach this week, with varying water and surf conditions, but still a good number of fish around. Mullet schools have not been quite as consistent as last week, but still a good number of them around. A good number of tarpon following the mullet schools, along with some bruiser jacks and still a good number of snook. A few bluefish starting to show up, which will inevitably begin to chase the snook out. Looks like it gets a little sloppy going into the weekend, which may make the beach a little tough to fish. On the flip side it could really fire the fishing up, making the Juno Beach Pier a good option. Each week a few more pompano show up. While it isn't springtime numbers by any means; the fall run(generally late September through October) can produce some good numbers of pompano. A bright colored Doc's Goofy jig fished on the pier his a great way to go for the pompano, and will also draw strikes from good mixed bag of jacks, ladyfish, and bluefish. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N NW winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Period 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. SAT...N NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. N NE swell 4 ft increasing to 3 to 4 ft in the afternoon. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A chance of showers and tstms. SUN...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. N NE swell 4 ft. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd From left to right...Fishing so good even the fish are smiling (picture courtesy of the Solomon family), Summer maybe winding down but is it ever not really tank top season in South Florida?, and Chris Lowe (IG @chris_lowe2424) putting his new reel to work with some early season pompano! OFFSHORE- Solid fishing offshore this week for those making it out. Very good dolphin fishing the last few days; with reports coming in scattered from 500-900' of water. Most of the dolphin have been in smaller packs in open water on current rips, but a handful of reports of good sized schools as well on floating debris. Trolling bonita strips and squid has been working well; as has drifting and chumming with live finger mullet (nice push of mullet showing up inshore). Mot of the dolphin have been in the 5-10lb range, with a gaffer or two in the mix as well. North/northeast winds will likely help push the dolphin in a little shallower for the weekend. Could see a good weekend of sailfish action; while not a lot of reports this week, these are the conditions that may have them chewing their face off! A handful of wahoo around this week, along with a pretty good scattering of kingfish in 120-150'. Very good bottom fishing this week. A lot of good yellowtail snapper reports, with some very good sized ones around. Also a good mix of mutton and yellowtail snapper.
INSHORE- Really good inshore fishing this week, and conditions look good for that to continue into the weekend. Snook fishing remains the best bet, with good number and good size fish around. most of the snook are locked in on the mullet schools and very ready to eat. Early in the morning and late afternoon a topwater plug (Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil or Topknock are two great choices) fished around bait docks and seawalls is a great way to go for the snook. Ambush points and areas with good current will better improve your odds. In with the snook taking advantage of the mullet schools should be a good number of tarpon, jacks, and even the occasional redfish. At night the bridge snook bite remains very strong. Flairhawk Jigs and 5" NLBN Swimbaits have been the lures of choice. SURF/PIER- A good number of mullet coming down the beach this week, with a good number of fish around. Lots of big tarpon and snook in the mullet schools; along with sharks, big Spanish Mackerel, and jacks. Looks like it may get a little rough along the beach making fishing a bit tough, but the fish should be around. The Juno Beach Pier will very likely go off this weekend. Find the mullet schools and the fish won't be far behind. A Rapala X-Rap, Yo-Zuri Mag Darter, or 8" NLBN have all been good lure choices around the mullet schools. OF course fishing a live mullet on the outside edge or under the school is also a great way to go. Typically the best action will be early and late in the day; but when the ocean gets moving like it's forecasted to this weekend it can stay active throughout the day. A few more pompano reports this week. It's still a bit early in the season for the pompano, but those putting in the time have been catching a few. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Period 4 seconds. NE swell 3 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers and tstms likely. SAT...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. NE swell 4 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers with a chance of tstms. SUN...SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. NE swell 4 ft. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Showers with a chance of tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd Peyton (IG @thep3yton) with the very rare Palm Beach County redfish! OFFSHORE- Not a lot of reports offshore this week (the usual suspects...weather, time of year, etc), but those making it out did find a nice mixed bag of action. Pretty solid dolphin reports in 700-1000' of water from Palm Beach up to Jupiter Inlet. Most of the dolphin have been on the smaller side, with 3-5lbs being about the average, but overall good numbers. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid has been producing the best action on the dolphin. Most of the dolphin have been on current rips, so keep the baits out and cover some water. A few early season sailfish being caught in 150-250' of water on live goggle eyes and small blue runners. A fair kingfish bite along the 120' ledge. Bottom fishing remains a bit hit or miss. A handful of good mangrove snapper reports coming in, along with a few nice muttons as well.
INSHORE- Snook fishing has been very good inshore the past week. The finger mullet have started to show up inshore and the snook, along with some smaller tarpon and jacks, are taking full advantage. The finger mullet tend to be the most active (in other words...up on top where they are easy targets) early and late in the day, so get after them if you can. When fishing around schools of mullet try and present baits on the outside edges or underneath the school for best results. Fishing ambush points (boat docks, bridge pilings, seawalls, mangrove points, etc) with current is also a good tactic. A lot if times the predators line up at these spots and wait for schools to be swept pass them. A single bait or lure is a lot of times too easy of a target to pass up. Mangrove snapper action has started to slow down inshore, but still a fair number around. And in other news that a select few will appreciate: Fall is just around the corner...you can always tell when the toadies start biting. SURF/PIER- Big news this week along the beach is the arrival of the mullet. Monster tarpon, jacks, and snook are all around to get in on the first big pods showing up. Best action is going to be early and late in the day; but depending on conditions those fish will sometimes bite throughout the day. Fishing in the middle of a large mullet school can be an exercise in patience. With a million options to choose from, getting something to grab your bait can be tough. Fishing the outside edges of the school can be the ticket, as can getting a bait below them as well. Another good trick can be throwing a way off colored plug. Sometimes that weird hot pink or bright green plug is just different enough to get their attention. Good lure options for the early part of the run (When the bluefish haven't shown up too thick) are 8" NLBN straight tails, Yo-Zuri Mag Darters, and Rapala X-Raps. The mullet run is (or at least can be) one of those National Geographic type moments that sometimes just watching is good enough...catchiong a fish or two out of the madness is just a bonus. In other news along the beach we have seen a few early season pompano starting to show up. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Period 10 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A slight chance of showers and tstms. SAT...Along the coast, E SE winds around 5 kt becoming 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. In the Gulf Stream, E SE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 ft or less. Intracoastal waters a light chop. A chance of showers and tstms. SUN...SE winds 5 to 10 kt becoming E SE in the evening. Seas 1 to 2 ft.
