OFFSHORE- Sailfish action has been good offshore over the past week. Bigger live baits (Goggle Eyes and Blue Runners) under the kite, and smaller live baits (Threads, Pilchards, or Sardines) on the flatlines is standard operating procedure for the sails. 150-250' will be the best depth range for the sailfish; with a mix of dolphin, kingfish, blackfin tuna, and occasional wahoo in the mix as well. Trolling small ballyhoo will also work well. Good north current, blue/green color changes, large areas or bait, and current rips are all good signs to look for. Dolphin bite has been good as well this week. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid is a good choice for the dolphin. Don't expect large schools of dolphin, but the average size overall has been pretty good. Bottom fishing reports have been a bit on the slower side, with a handful of snapper reports coming in.
INSHORE- The usual wintertime species have started to fill in well inshore. Lots of jacks (mostly on the smaller side) have filled into the Loxahatchee River and ICW. Live shrimp, small bucktail jigs, and small swimming plugs are a great way to go for them. A good number of ladyfish mixed in with the jacks. The pompano have been mixed in as well with the jacks and ladyfish. 3/8oz Doc's Goofy Jigs are a great way to target all of them. Green, pink, and orange jigs have all been working well. Catch and release snook fishing slowed a bit this week, but still decent for those putting the time in on them. The snook at night around the bridges have definitely started to key in heavily on live shrimp. The top of the outgoing tide has been the best bet for them. SURF/PIER- Nice mixed bag action along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week. Pompano bite is not on fire; but those putting in some time have been picking away at them. On the beach the pomps are biting sandfleas and FishBites. At the Juno Beach Pier it has been a mixture of bait and Doc's Goofy Jigs producing pompano bites. Strong Spanish Mackerel bite at the Juno Beach Pier; with white crappie jigs being the top lure choice. A mixture of jacks, blue runners, and ladyfish around as well. Croakers and whiting action has been decent in the first trough. Small pieces of fresh shrimp will be the best bait for them. No bluefish reports to speak of. Blacktip sharks have been around in good numbers. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds 10 to 15 kt, increasing to 15 to 20 kt in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: NE 3 ft at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. A chance of showers. SAT AND SAT NIGHT...SE winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Wave Detail: N 4 ft at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. SUN...SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Wave Detail: SE 3 ft at 5 seconds and NE 2 ft at 11 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd Daniel with a surprise catch fishing w/ Captain Eric of Countyline Charters on a Christmas Fishing Trip OFFSHORE- Nice looking sailfish conditions headed into the weekend; especially on Saturday. Bigger live baits (goggle eyes and blue runners) under the kites, and threadfins on the flats will be the way to go for the sailfish. Best depth will likely be in the 130-225' range depending on water conditions. Should be some bigger dolphin mixed in with the sailfish, and don't be surprised to see some wahoo around on the backside of the full moon. Should be some kings in the mix as well. Look for most of the action to be in that same 120-300' range: This time of year most of the action will be in that depth range. Blackfin reports remain good up to the north. Live baits fished mid water column or a high speed vertical jig ripped up from the bottom is a great way to go for the tunas. Bottom fishing reports have been on the slower side; no doubt due to the weather.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been fair inshore this week. The snook have been in the Loxahatchee River during the day, and around the bridges at night. In both cases try to fish moving water (can be incoming or outgoing tide) for best results. Snook are lazy and don't want to work too hard for a meal; instead they prefer to use the current to wash meals to them. As the water continues to cool off shrimp become a better and better option for the snook. Sheepshead have started to show up in little better numbers; and they should continue to improve in numbers as the water cools. Live shrimp and sand fleas will be top bait choices for the sheepshead. SURF/PIER- A handful of pompano reports this week, with a few fish scattered along the beach and a few coming over the rails at the Juno Beach Pier. Sandfleas and FishBites have been the baits of choice for the pomps. Bright colored Doc's Goofy Jigs are the lure of choice for the pompano. A few scattered Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish around the Juno Beach Pier as well. White crappie jigs are the lure of choice for the Macs. The bluefish will bite a diamond jig, spoon, or swimming plug. The sharks have been found in solid numbers. Fresh chunks of bait are the can't miss way to go for the sharks. A fair number of croaker and whiting in the first trough on pieces of shrimp. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NW winds 5 to 10 kt, increasing to 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT...N winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: N 5 ft at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT NIGHT THROUGH SUN NIGHT...E winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: N 5 ft at 7 seconds and NE 3 ft at 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. Thanks For Reading, Todd Winter time just hits different in South Florida...County Line Charter customers know how to deal with the cold! OFFSHORE- Fishing has been fairly decent offshore this week: Unfortunately it looks like the weather is going to keep everybody at the dock headed into the weekend. Sailfish action has been good; with most boats getting at least a few chances and double digit chances not out of the question. Live baits (Goggle Eyes or small Blue Runners) under the kite are the way to go for the sails. Best depth on the sails has bounced around; with 150-250' generally being a pretty safe bet. A handful of dolphin mixed in with the sailfish in the same depth. Blackfin tuna action has been good as well, especially up to the north. Bottom fishing reports have been a bit slow, with a handful of mutton snapper being caught.
INSHORE- Only a few days left before snook season closes for the winter. Snook fishing has been decent this week; however cooler weather will no doubt slow the bite down. During the day look for the snook to be laid up on dark mud bottom. At night the snook are on the bridges; and are quickly switching to a largely shrimp based diet. Outgoing tide tends to be the best bet for the snook. The snook have also been hanging around docklights, along with scattered tarpon as well as. Sheepshead action has started to improve inshore. Live shrimp is a solid choice for the sheepshead. Bridges and boat dock pilings with heavy barnacle growth is a great place to look for the sheepshead. SURF/PIER- A little slower fishing along the beach this week. A few scattered pompano around, but no big catches. Spanish Mackerel action has started to get good in Peck's Lake (though it will be. washout this weekend). Jacks have been cruising the beach in decent numbers. Most of the jacks have been on the smaller side; with a few bigger ones in the mix. Blacktip sharks have been around in good numbers. A fresh chunk of bait won't go unnoticed long by a passing shark. Has been a fair number of croaker around as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 5 to 8 ft, occasionally to 10 ft. Wave Detail: NE 8 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. SAT THROUGH SUN...NE winds 25 to 30 kt. Seas 7 to 10 ft, occasionally to 13 ft. Wave Detail: E 9 ft at 7 seconds and NW 3 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters very rough in exposed areas. A chance of showers. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Sailfish action remains good offshore. Live baits (goggle eyes and blue runners) under the kite are the best bet for the sails. Best depth has bounced around depending on water conditions; with 120-175' being a good general depth to start the hunt. Not as many dolphin reports this week; with mainly a few bigger dolphin coming in the same depth as the sailfish. Blackfin tuna reports have been good in 200-300' of water. Bottom fishing was a bit slower this week. Conditions overall were not the most ideal offshore this week. If reports improve as the week goes on we will try to update the report.
INSHORE- Snook fishing slowed a bit this week with the cooler weather, but still a fair number around. The shrimp jig bite has picked up with the cooler weather, especially around the bridges at night. As the air and water temp fall the snook's metabolism naturally slows down, which makes smaller baits and slower presentations a key. Still a week and a half left before the season closes(12/15); so be sure to get after them now if you're looking to bring a snook home for the holidays. Sheepshead action has improved over the past week, with a few black drum in the mix as well. The jacks have been in Palm Beach Inlet in big numbers. SURF/PIER- A little slower this week along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Pompano action did seem to improve a little as the water cleaned up. Fishbites and sand fleas are the bait of choice for the pompano. A scattering of bluefish and Spanish Mackerel around. The jacks, including some good size ones, have been cruising the beach in decent numbers. Croaker and whiting have been biting in the first trough on small pieces of fresh shrimp. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NW winds 5 to 10 kt, increasing to 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. FRI NIGHT THROUGH MON...SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: N 5 ft at 6 seconds and E 3 ft at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd We teamed up with JYG Pro Fishing on this awesome Instagram raffle...check out the post on our IG page for more details. |
