OFFSHORE- Dolphin reports sound good this week; with a solid number of fish being caught in 800-1000' of water. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid remains a very good way to go for the dolphin. Look for the dolphin to be on well formed weed lines, around floating debris, and on well defined current rips and color changes. Most of the dolphin have been in the 5-10lb range, with a few bigger ones in the mix as well. Conditions look good for the dolphin on Friday and Saturday. The wind comes around out of the north on Sunday and the ocean kicks up pretty good; could trigger a good early season sailfish bite. Bottom fishing reports have started to improve. Water conditions and current are getting back to normal, and the fish are responding. A good mix of snapper around, with sardines being the bait of choice on the bottom.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains good inshore right now. Some decent pods of mullet around and the snook are tagging close behind. Scattered tarpon and jacks will be mixed in with the snook as well. The mullet will be most active early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and at night. At night the snook will also be hanging around the bridges. Outgoing tide seems to be the best bet on the snook, with a flair hawk jig remaining a top lure choice right now. If the snook are popping mullet on top; a Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil or Yo-Zuri Mag Darter is a solid lure choice. The toadies are biting well inshore this week. Small pieces of fresh shrimp on a long shank hook is the way to go for the toadies. SURF/PIER- Despite less than ideal looking water along the beach; the fishing has been pretty good. A good number of mullet pods have been coming down the beach with snook and tarpon still being around in good numbers (When the bluefish show up...the snook go away!). Some jacks and sharks have been mixed in the mullet schools as well. A live mullet fished on the edge or under the school is a great way to go. When you're fishing in a million baits, you have to figure out how to make yours look a little different. The Juno Beach Pier snook bite is not red hot right now; but still a pretty good number of fish around. The bait situation (unless a school of mullet comes by) is a little tough at the pier. Pompano reports were good last weekend, with a nice number of fish around. Conditions look good to hopefully se some pompano show up again this weekend as well. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...S winds around 5 kt. Seas less than 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: SE 1 foot at 2 seconds and N 1 foot at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters smooth. A chance of showers and tstms. SAT...SE winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming E in the afternoon. Seas less than 2 ft or less, then around 2 ft in the afternoon. Wave Detail: SE 1 foot at 3 seconds, becoming E 1 foot at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. A chance of showers and tstms. SUN...N winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: NE 5 ft at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A chance of showers and tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd IG @kidder1003 with a solid one out of "The Mighty" fishing with Capt Eric (www.countylinecharters.com) this week..."The Mighty" of course being the world famous Loxahatchee. OFFSHORE- Tough fishing continued offshore this week. Inside of 300' the water remains dirty with very little current. A few scattered dolphin out deep this week; with reports seeming to bounce from 800-1000' of water. The usual smaller trolling baits are the way to go for the dolphin; with bonita strips and squid being solid choices. Most of the dolphin have been in the 3-5lb range with a few 10lb fish in the mix. No wahoo reports this week to speak of, but that could change with the new moon this weekend. This time of year the sea-witch and bonita strip behind a planer is the way to go for the wahoo. Bottom fishing reports remain very hit or miss. When the tide gets back to running north and the water starts to clean up the bottom fishing should improve.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains the best bet inshore right now. The snook will be following mullet schools and seem to be feeding best at first light or as the sun is going down. A lot of freshwater in the Loxahatchee River and parts of the ICW right now, so look for the fishing to be a little better closer to the inlets. A handful of tarpon and jacks will be mixed in with the snook as well. A noisy topwater like a Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil is a good choice during lowlight periods of the day. At night the snook have been hanging around the bridges in decent numbers. A flair hawk style jig remains a top lure choice for the snook. SURF/PIER: Despite rather gross looking conditions and a fair amount of scattered seaweed, fishing along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier has been fair this week. The mullet run has been a bit sporadic this week, but still some decent pods coming by. The snook, tarpon, and jacks have been following close behind the pods. Early morning and late afternoon tends to produce the most action around the mullet schools. The Juno Beach Pier has been producing a good number of small pompano, along with a decent number of ladyfish. A bright colored Doc's Goofy Jig will work well for both. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 2 ft at 4 seconds and NE 2 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. SAT...NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. SUN...NE winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Not a lot to write about offshore wise this week; with a lack of tide along the edge, strange funky water, and an ocean full of crabs. The strange ocean conditions have kept the rock shrimp floating around the surface, but have left the fishing sub par at best. It does look like a mild front pushes through into the weekend and that will hopefully help get conditions more back to normal. Despite the conditions a handful of wahoo are being caught on the backside of the full moon. The wahoo have been biting bonita strips with a sea-witch much better than anything else. Most of the wahoo have been coming in the 175-300' range. A few scattered dolphin reports way out deep, but not very predictable. Snapper fishing remains very hit or miss on the bottom.
INSHORE- The mullet have started to flow inshore in pretty good numbers this week. As usual the mullet will move much better at night and during lowlight conditions. Snook, tarpon, jacks, and even the occasional redfish could be hanging around the mullet schools. The snook have been locked in on the mullet around the bridges at night. A flair hawk, larger swimbait, Yo-Zuri Mag Darter, or Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil are all good lure choices for the snook. Outgoing tide seems to produce a little better, but incoming tide with cloudy water will also work well. During the day look for the snook ands tarpon to be following mullet schools further up the Loxahatchee River and in the ICW. Docks and seawalls with some water depth are great areas to look for as they make ideal ambush points for predators following the mullet. Doesn't get the same press as the mullet run...but the fall toadie run is on for those into that kind of thing! SURF/PIER- The early part of the week saw some nice pods of mullet with snook and tarpon rolling down the beach. A slight building swell and funky water conditions into the middle of the week seem to have slowed things down a bit. That will likely change headed into the weekend with favorable conditions lining up. The mullet should be around in very good numbers headed into the weekend. The best action will likely be early morning and then again late afternoon. Fishing mullet on the edge of the school or underneath the school is. solid way to go. Loud noisy lures in bright colors can also be a good way to go when fishing around mullet schools. A handful of early season pompano around, but most of the fish have been on the smaller side. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...N winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming NE 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Showers with tstms likely. SAT...NE winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 2 ft at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers likely. A chance of tstms in the morning, then tstms likely in the afternoon. SUN...NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Wave Detail: NE 3 ft at 8 seconds and N 3 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms. Thanks For Reading, Todd Longtime customer Dave and friends found a nice fall pumpkin... OFFSHORE- The new moon wahoo bite has been good this week, with some good numbers around. The wahoo have been biting along the 120' ledge early in the mornin g, and then sliding out to 250-400' of water as the sun gets up higher in the sky. A sea-witch and bonita strip behind the planer is a great way to go for the wahoo. The Nomad DTX minnow is also getting some wahoo bites. A few scattered dolphin out deep; with the better catches coming outside of 800' of water. The usual assortment of small bonita strips, squid, and ballyhoo remain solid choices for the dolphin. Bottom fishing remains relatively tough. The current has been on the slow side and the bite has been very slow. When the current gets back to more normal conditions the snapper fishing should improve.
INSHORE- Tough fishing inshore this week for the most part. A few mullet have started to trickle in, but the full on mullet run has not started yet. It looks like things should open up soon; but as of now it remains a waiting game. Snook fishing has been fair, with those really putting the time and effort in finding a few. The snook fishing has been better at night, with outgoing tide tending to be the better bet. Flairhawks and swimbaits remain top lure choices for the snook. When the mullet really start to flood inshore expect the snook and tarpon to really fire up inshore; but when that happens remains anyones guess. SURF/PIER- Fishing remains relatively tough overall along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Everyone is waiting on the mullet to show up. At the time of writing a few small pods of passed by; but overall things have not really started happening yet. A few snook biting late in the afternoon at the Juno Beach Pier, with bigger live baits being the way to go. The Spanish Mackerel have made a decent little showing this week at the pier. A smaller swimming plug or bobber rig with a Clark spoon have been a good way to go for the macs. Freelining a small live bait is also a great way to go for targeting the mackerel. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...W winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming S in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 2 ft at 7 seconds and SW 1 foot at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers, tstms. SAT...S winds around 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: SW 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers and tstms likely. SUN...S winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: SW 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers and tstms likely.
