OFFSHORE- Fishing offshore was a bit slow this week; though it has been showing signs of improvement as the week goes on. Dolphin fishing has been good, with some good catches coming in 200-300' of water and also outside of 1000' of water. The dolphin have been largely found around floating debris and along well formed current rips. Smaller baits (Small ballyhoo, bonita strips, squid) have been a very good choice for the dolphin. The wahoo reports have fallen way off, but still a handful of fish around. Trolling planes with sea-witch and bonita strip combo has been the best bet for the wahoo. As the moon starts to get bigger over the next few week expect the wahoo bite to pick up again. Bottom fishing has been slow this week, with very little current early in the week. As the current starts to get back to normal expect the bottom fishing to start picking up.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been pretty good again this week. Snook season opens Monday, and if current patterns hold the snook should be biting well. The mullet have started to trickle inshore (moving around better at night) and the snook have taken notice. Now is a great time for throwing bigger topwater plugs and swimbaits. mixed in with the snook should be some bruiser jacks and tarpon. Look for the snook to be staged up on ambush points with good current flow. At night the snook have been hanging around bridge shadow lines and docklights. As the mullet start to flow in better and better expect the fishing to really heat up. SURF/PIER- This week saw a little more action along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Following the big swell last week a few pompano, including some keepers, showed up. Along the beach a few pompano were biting sand fleas, while the Juno Beach Pier had some pomps coming over the rails on Doc's Goofy Jigs. The snook fishing has been good along the beach and at the Juno Beach as well this week. The snook have been biting small swimbaits and swimming plugs along the beach; with the best bite coming early in the morning. The Juno Beach Pier has had a good number of pilchards around, and the snook have been floating up top and biting free lined baits on the surface. A few scattered tarpon along the beach over the past week. Everything looks good for the mullet run to really ramp up anytime. No big mullet schools yet; but it can't be far off! NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SW winds around 5 kt, becoming SE in the afternoon. Seas less than 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: SE 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters smooth. A chance of tstms. Showers likely, mainly in the morning. SAT...S winds around 5 kt. Seas less than 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: SE 1 foot at 2 seconds and N 1 foot at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters smooth. Tstms likely. Showers. SUN...SW winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming NW in the afternoon. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: N 1 foot at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers likely with a chance of tstms in the morning, then showers with tstms likely in the afternoon. Thanks For Reading, Todd The fishing world lost a giant this week. Flip Pallot was an icon in every sense of the word, and he will be missed by so many. In the words of Flip "More to come. Bye for now" OFFSHORE- Reports have been a bit slim this week. Those making it offshore have found a decent number of dolphin around. 600-800' of water seems to be a pretty good range for the dolphin. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid has been the best bet for the dolphin. Wahoo action slowed way down; but still a handful of them around. Kingfish action came to a grinding halt early in the week. Not a lot to write about this week; hoping things change headed into the weekend. A big swell this weekend will hopefully get things moving enough to fire the fish up a bit.
INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing remains pretty good inshore. The snook are still in and around the inlets in good numbers; but have also started to put back into the ICW and River in a little better numbers. The mullet run hasn't started yet, but a few early arriving mullet have caught the snook's attention. At night the snook have been around the bridges in decent numbers. Outgoing tide tends to produce the best results on the snook, but if the incoming tide is cloudy they will bite on that tide as well. Mangrove snapper have been biting a little bit at night. SURF/PIER- Fishing from surf has been pretty much a wash this week, with a large swell and dirty water making things tough on the beach. The Juno Beach Pier snook bite has been fair this week. With dirty water and a swell the snook have been willing to bite swimbaits and jigs a little better; with that bite likely continuing into the weekend. The bait has thinned out with the swell, but conditions do look right for some early season mullet to start showing up. A few tarpon have been mixed in with the snook at the pier, another good indicator that the mullet are likely not too far away. No snapper bite yet at the Pier with the hurricane swell, but that hopefully will change headed into the weekend. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...W winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming SW in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: NE 5 ft at 11 seconds and W 3 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. A chance of showers and tstms in the morning, then showers and tstms likely in the afternoon. SAT AND SAT NIGHT...SW winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: NE 4 ft at 13 seconds and NW 2 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers and tstms likely. SUN...SW winds around 10 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: NE 4 ft at 12 seconds and W 2 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. A chance of showers and tstms in the morning, then showers and tstms likely through the night. A chance of showers and tstms after midnight. Thanks For Reading, Todd Our buddy Murf and his Dad caught a solid one fishing with Capt Eric on Countyline Charters last week! OFFSHORE- Wahoo fishing has remained good this week on the backside of the full moon. Trolling Nomad DTX Minnows in the 165 and 200 size has worked well for the wahoo in 130-300' of water. Hot Pink Mackerel, Pink Lava, and Wahooligan have all been great lure color choices for the DTX Minnows. Trolling planers with a sea-witch and bonita strip combo also remains very effective for the wahoo; although the scattered wed has be relentless. No secret for dealing with the weed; you just have to fight through it. A few scattered dolphin reports out deep this week, but overall a tough pick on the mahi. Snapper fishing has been fair this week. Seems to be a fairly steady pick of mutton snapper around for those putting in the time. A few yellowtail and mangrove snapper in the mix as well. Sardines remain the bait of choice for the snapper.
INSHORE- The inshore summer mangrove snapper fishing has finally seemed to get going over the past week or so. The mangrove snapper generally bite best at night around bridges and deeper boat docks with some current. Small live pilchards and live shrimp will be the best bet for the mangrove snapper. It's always a fine line in bait choice with mangrove snapper. Fishing smaller baits for the snapper gets a lot more bites, but leaves you picking through a lot of 8 and 9" fish before finding a few keepers. A bigger pilchard or good size chunk of sardine will catch the bigger snapper, but the bites come a lot slower. Snook fishing remains pretty good inshore, with fish both around the inlets and pushing into the ICW and Loxahatchee in decent numbers. A few early season mullet (mostly bigger mullet, not much in finger mullet) have pushed inshore, and the snook and occasional tarpon have taken notice of the early arrivers. The snook fishing remains better at night, with bridges and docklights being the best bet still. The dock light fish are still (and generally always will) eating smaller lure better, with the bridge fish being pretty tuned in on flair hawks these days. SURF/PIER- For the most part fishing has been rather tough this week along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Catch and release snook fishing has been the most consistent thing going on this week; but slightly off colored water and a fair amount of seaweed has made even that tough. Live bait has been around the Juno Beach Pier in decent numbers this week, but it does seem to be thinning out a bit: This is a very common late summer deal that generally indicates a slow turn to fall patterns, and likely the start of the mullet run before too much longer. A few early season pods of mullet have already come down the beach, but we are still a week or two away from seeing real start of the mullet run. If Tropical Storm (and later on Major Hurricane) Erin's probable track holds true it should help get a big push of mullet headed our way late next week. (Right at about time of publishing...it does sound like water conditions have started to improve) NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas less than 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas less than 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. A chance of showers and tstms. SUN...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas less than 2 ft or less. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. A chance of showers and tstms in the morning. Thanks For Reading, Todd Some exciting new stuff in shop these days...gotta come by and check it out. Also stay tuned for news about our upcoming Shimano day! OFFSHORE- The upcoming full moon has the wahoo absolutely chewing right now! The reports have been very good on the wahoo out of both Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlets this week. Early morning and late afternoon they slide in a little shallower to feed (Mostly on those pain in the butt bonita), before sliding back out to 200-300' of water when the sun is up higher in the sky. Trolling Nomad DTX Minnows, Rapala X-Rap Magnums, or a Sea-Witch with a bonita strip remains a solid way to target the wahoo. A live bait (especially sardine or small goggle eye) fished 25-50' below the surface is also a great way to go for the wahoo, especially later in the day. Try and stay out a little deeper with the live baits to cut down on the number of bonita grabbing the live baits. Dolphin reports have fallen off pretty good; but still some being caught for those covering ground. Better dolphin reports seem to be coming from out deeper (800-1000' of water). Kingfish have been scattered along the 120' ledge in decent numbers. The kings have been biting better late in the afternoon with the upcoming full moon. Snapper fishing has been fair this week, with some good late afternoon reports. A decent mixture of muttons, mangrove, and lane snapper being caught in 80-90' of water.
INSHORE- The Snook have been biting well in Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlet. Live sand-perch and croakers are top bait choice for snook in the inlet. Some of the snook will also break out of the inlet and lay up along seawalls in the Loxahatchee. A few early season mullet have trickled in, with the snook taking notice of the early arriving mullet. At night the snook have been hanging around the bridges in good numbers. Outgoing tide has been producing the most bites on the snook. A few scattered tarpon and jacks in the mix. Mangrove snapper have been biting pretty good inshore, with the better bite coming at night. SURF/PIER- Relatively slow fishing this week along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Catch and release snook fishing remains the best bet these days, with the snook biting best early in the morning and late in the afternoon. A fair number of small pilchards around; with the snook getting up floating pretty good in the bait schools. When the snook get up and float in the bait schools they are easy targets for the free line live baits. A few snook biting along the beach very early in the morning, with small swimbaits and twitch baits being top lure choices. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...SE winds around 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: SE 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Tstms likely. Showers. SAT...SE winds around 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: SE 2 ft at 4 seconds and N 1 foot at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Showers with tstms likely. SAT NIGHT THROUGH SUN NIGHT...E winds around 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft.
