OFFSHORE- Sailfish action absolutely went off last weekend, with some of the best numbers of the season coming on Friday and Saturday. The sailfish numbers fell off a bit Sunday and early into the week, but still a lot of boats with multiple chances over the past few days. This weekend is the Jupiter Billfish Classic; will be interesting to see if the tournament guys find a group of fish like they did last weekend. Dolphin action has been very good over the past week as well, with lots of dolphin mixed in with the sailfish in 100-225' of water. The same goggle eyes and blue runners under a kite will get bites from the sailfish and the dolphin. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and squid will also work well for the dolphin. Blackfin tuna action remains good up to the north, with a few scattered ones to the south as well. Springtime action along the reef out to the 120' ledge is starting to get going as well. The rudder fish are starting to show up, with a few cobra in tow as well. Bottom fishing seems to have picked back up a bit; with a good mixture of snapper around.
INSHORE- Warm weather has the snook biting well inshore this week. During the day the snook have been cruising seawalls and hanging under boat docks. A live mullet is going to be the top bait choice for the snook during the day. Just watch out, as bruiser jacks have been cruising the same seawalls and will often beat the snook to the mullet. A handful of tarpon around as well inshore; but not in big numbers. At night the snook fishing will be best around boat docks and bridge shadow lines on outgoing tide. Sheepshead action is still good in Palm Beach Inlet; though it is definitely starting to slow down. Live shrimp will be the top bait choice for the sheepshead. Pompano reports inshore have fallen way off, with only a few coming in from up north (Sailfish flats in Stuart continues to hold a few). SURF/PIER- Overall a bit slow along the beach this week. Pompano reports did start to improve mid week with a handful of fish coming in. The afternoon bite seems to be best on the pompano from south of the pier up to Jupiter Inlet. No big numbers to speak of; instead 2 to 3 pompano for those putting the time in on the beach. The usual assortment of baits (Sandfleas, clams, and FishBites) will do the trick on the pompano. A few scattered schools of bluefish moved through over the past few days, but hard to pattern or target. First few reports of big jack cruising by the Juno Beach Pier did come through this week (Randomly...they had lockjaw and no interest in eating anything). The croaker have continued to bite decently in the first trough on pieces of fresh shrimp. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NW winds 10 to 15 kt, becoming N 5 to 10 kt in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT...SW winds around 5 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 2 ft at 7 seconds and S 1 foot at 3 seconds. Intracoastal waters smooth. SAT NIGHT THROUGH MON...NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 6 seconds and E 2 ft at 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd Lots of new hats came in this week! Come by and check them out. Don't worry non-local fishing report readers...new hats will be up on the online store in the near future! OFFSHORE- Sailfish action should pick up headed into the weekend. A cold front and wind change should get the sails snapping. Bluewater Movement's three inlet "Sailfish Challenge" is Friday and Saturday; and with some of the best sailfish teams in the country competing...somebody is going to put up some numbers this weekend on the sails! The dolphin bit a little better this week in 200-350' of water from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Inlet. Trolling small ballyhoo, bonita strips, and quid remains a solid way to go when targeting the dolphin. Blackfin Tuna action remains good off St. Luice Inlet. It likely won't be a very nice weekend offshore, but the fish will likely be biting. If you can handle the rough stuff...it maybe worth a look around.
INSHORE- Snook fishing remains very good with the moderate weather. During the day snook have been along seawalls and under boat docks with dark mud bottom. A live mullet is tough to beat for the daytime snook. Some bruiser jacks have been cruising the same areas that the snook have been hanging out in, along with an occasional tarpon or two as well. At night the snook will move to bridges and docklights. Warm weather has them eating the jig and bigger swimbaits a little better, but don't overlook live shrimp or shrimp lures for fast bites as well. Sheepshead action remains very good in Palm Beach Inlet, with live shrimp being the top bait choice for them. Pompano reports have been slim inshore; with the best reports seeming to come more from up north. SURF/PIER- Fishing remained a bit slow along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week. The weather does change pretty drastically headed into the weekend which will likely shake things up. A few schools of bluefish slid through in the week, with some solid ten plus pound fish in the mix; though they didn't hang around long. Scattered schools of jacks moving along the beach as well. Pompano reports remain a bit slow overall, with only a handful of fish around. Croaker and whiting continued to bite well, with pieces of fresh shrimp remaining the bait of choice. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...NE winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 5 to 7 ft, occasionally to 9 ft. Wave Detail: N 6 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas. SAT...E winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. Wave Detail: NE 4 ft at 8 seconds and E 3 ft at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUN...SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft, occasionally to 5 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 7 seconds and NE 3 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd This week's picture comes from Captain Eric of County Line Charters who has been having a great few weeks of inshore fishing...all about hitting that window! (www.countylinecharters.com) OFFSHORE- Sailfish action seemed to slow way down this week. Those really putting in the time have been seeing a few fish, but no big numbers to speak of. Looks like we get a cold front pushing through early next week, which will likely have them snapping again. Dolphin fishing remains fair, with a handful of decent fish around. East/southeast winds in the forecast should help keep some dolphin pushed in a little closer. 200-350' of water remains a good depth to look for the dolphin. Trolling bonita strips and squid remains a solid choice for the dolphin. No wahoo reports on the moon (at least at time of writing), but should be some around this weekend. Some nice blackfin tuna caught this week, with action on the tuna being better up to the north. Bottom fishing reports slowed a bit, but still some decent snapper reports coming in. A few days of slower current had the vermillion snapper biting good out a little deeper. Speaking of out deeper, like way deeper...swordfish have been biting well.
INSHORE- Snook continue to bite well inshore with this nice stretch of warmer weather. During the day look for the snook to be lurking along seawalls and under boat docks, especially in areas with good dark mud bottom. A live mullet will be a top bait choice for the daytime snook. With a full moon, expect the snook to bite better late in the afternoon or at night. At night the snook will be easier to target around bridges and under docklights. With the warmer water the snook will eat a jig or bigger swimbait a little better; but they are still largely keyed in on smaller baits and shrimp. The top of the outgoing tide remains the best bet for the snook. Pompano action slowed inshore this week, but still a few scattered ones around. Plenty of small jacks and ladyfish around to smack a Doc's Goofy Jig while you're trying to catch the pomps as well. Sheepshead action remains good in Lake Worth Inlet, with live shrimp being a top bait choice for them. SURF/PIER- Despite very nice conditions this week fishing was a bit slow along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Pompano action really fell off, with only a few scattered fish caught early each morning. Sounds like the pompano have been biting a little better up to the north (Hobe Sound/Jensen Beach). The croaker and whiting have been biting pretty decent on the beach this week. Small pieces of fresh shrimp is the top bait choice for them. Spanish Mackerel seem to be holding pretty decent at Peck's Lake this week, though it has been taking a lot of chum to really get them fired up. A Flash Minnow or Clark spoon is a great choice for the Macs. A little weather change (cold front coming early in the week) headed into the weekend could change things up at Peck's. This is the time of year for the blacktip and spinner sharks to really show up in big numbers...should be happening almost any day. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 4 seconds and W 1 foot at 6 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT...SE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft, occasionally to 8 ft. Wave Detail: SE 3 ft at 5 seconds and N 3 ft at 9 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. SUN...S winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 4 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: S 4 ft at 5 seconds and NW 4 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd OFFSHORE- Fishing was a bit slower offshore this week. Sailfish numbers fell off, with two or three releases being a good day this week. A handful of dolphin mixed in with the sailfish, but those numbers fell off as well. 120-250' remains a good depth to look for the sailfish. Dolphin seem to be biting best in 200-350' of water. East wind in the forecast will likely help push some dolphin in a little closer this weekend. The moon is getting bigger which could help trigger a wahoo bite. Bottom fishing was fair this week, with a handful of nice mutton snapper being caught.
INSHORE- Warming weather this week has the snook biting better. The usual wintertime areas (docks with dark mud bottoms and close proximity to deeper water) will be holding snook during the day. At night the snook have been around bridges and docklights. Live shrimp and shrimp jigs are still working great for the snook; but the bigger baits are also coming into play a little more these days. The top of the outgoing tide has been the best bet for the snook. A handful of pompano pushed inshore this week. The ICW and Loxahatchee River both produced a few pomps. Bright colored Doc's Goofy Jigs have been working well for the pompano. Plenty of ladyfish and small jacks mixed in with the pompano. SURF/PIER- Slow fishing this week along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. A few scattered pompano around, but limits few and far between for the most part. Better pompano reports seemed to come from up north (Hobe Sound and Hutchison Island). Sandfleas and FishBites have been the bait of choice for the pomps. Spanish Mackerel remain scattered up and down the beach, with Peck's Lake holding a decent amount of fish this week. No bluefish reports to speak of this week. Croakers and whiting have been biting decently in the first trough. NOAA MARINE WEATHER: FRI...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas around 2 ft. Wave Detail: E 1 foot at 3 seconds and N 1 foot at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. SAT NIGHT THROUGH TUE NIGHT...SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: SE 2 ft at 4 seconds and N 2 ft at 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop. Thanks For Reading, Todd |
