The "Finch" is a great small trolling lure to put in the spread on calm clear days. The small unassuming profile is hard for any pelagic species to turn down.
The "Mini Soft Head" from Fathom Lures can turn any subpar looking ballyhoo into a mean looking trolling bait. Keep a few around for tough days...sometimes a title change or splash of color makes all the difference!
This "Sunhood" from Glacier Glove is a great way to keep the hot South Florida Sun off your face and neck. Can be comfortably worn a lot of different ways with or without a hat.
In a perfect sailfishing world the wind is always blowing at a nice steady 10-15mph out of the North...and since that is not the world we live in; we have these! On the days the wind doesn't blow and the kite won't stay in the air; it's time to break out the helium balloon and send it up anyways. The "Kite Thong" is a great way to easily attach the ballon to the kite.
Looking for something a little different to add to your wahoo trolling spread? This "Fatboy" from Fathom Lures is a great medium size lure for the days the wahoo aren't interested in the big stuff. It's heavy enough to stay down at high speeds (still best fished with an inline trolling sinker), and with nine color options; finding just the right one shouldn't be too hard!
The south Florida sun (even in the winter) can make long days on the water brutal. Keep cool and stay covered as much as possible. This "Black-Roack" hat from Glacier Glove does the job nicely! Check it out in our online store...currently at a great sale price!
These Scylla Lures are a great addition to a ballyhoo, squid, or bonita strip...or make a great trolling lure all by themselves!
To optimize live bait quality, always try to use a de-hooker when taking baits off a sabiki rig. Avoid touching as much as possible, simply slide the de-hooker down the line to the hook and quickly flip the direction(while holding baits over live well). Bait that is lightly handled will far outperform baits that have had their slime coat all but taken off.
To get the best action out of a live bait presented under a kite; few things match "bridling" the bait on. Use a open eyed needle (Pictured right) to thread a rigging band through the back of a goggle eye or blue runner. The band is then looped around the hook, keeping it securely fastened atop the bait. Better for the bait, and also leads to few missed fish.
